Mr. Hartwig was born in Youngstown, Ohio on March 19, 1973. He is a graduate of South Range High School in North Lima, Ohio. He attended John Carroll University (B.S., cum laude, 1995) where he played baseball and was a member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society. He received his law degree from The University of Akron (J.D.) in 1998 and was the recipient of the CALI Excellence for Trial Advocacy Award. Mr. Hartwig is admitted to practice in all Ohio courts and the United States District Court, for the Northern District of Ohio.
Mr. Hartwig was employed for 14 years as a partner in a reputable Youngstown lawfirm, practicing in the areas of Plaintiff’s personal injury, criminal defense, juvenile delinquency defense, employment law and worker’s compensation litigation. In 2012, he started his own law firm focusing on all areas of criminal defense in both State and Federal courts and serious personal injury/wrongfuldeath cases. He has tried dozens of trials in both civil and criminal cases. Mr. Hartwig is certified by the Supreme Court of Ohio to represent defendants as Trial Co-Counsel in death penalty cases. He was recognized in Ohio Super Lawyers Magazine in both 2012 and 2013 as a Rising Star. He is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum for having been lead counsel on at least one case which resulted in a multi-million dollar verdict or settlement.
He is a member of the Ohio Association for Justice and the Mahoning County and Ohio State Bar Associations. He is a past President of the Mahoning County Bar Association (2012), past co-chairperson/current member of its Young Lawyers Committee, and current member of its certified grievance committee. He is also member of the Facility Governing Board for the Mahoning County Community-Based Correctional Facility.
Mr. Hartwig is married to Elizabeth and has three children, Sarah, Lauren, and Nicholas.
