Wish I would've done my homework before selecting an attorney, I was definitely taken advantage of

Attorney Koehler spent very little time with my case and this was evident in every situation we spent in court, and there weren't many. He seemed to be an attorney who was experienced so I assumed I wouldn't have to investigate every move made but that turned out to be a huge mistake on my part. I ha...d very little experience with this type of thing, have never had a relative pass where I had to take on the responsibility of administrator so I decided to attempt to hire an attorney that I felt would do the right thing. I've been a kind person my entire life and have always been taken advantage of, I just assumed that losing my father in the way I did would motivate someone to do the right thing. I am very hurt by this, I lost my father in a horrible way. All I wanted was closure and I feel now that that will never be possible for me. Thank you for listening, this is something I felt I needed to get out. Sincerely, Ryan

Ryan, we have just completed your father's estate, eleven months after you put this review on my Avvo page. Given the way your father died, I agree that this has been an unpleasant task. In addition to administering the estate, I defended the estate against two lawsuits, a wrongful death lawsuit filed by his wife's estate, and a declaratory judgment action, asking the court to prohibit you and your brothers from receiving anything from his estate, and to prohibit his estate from inheriting from his wife's estate, because your father intentionally caused his wife's death. I spent a lot of time handling these matters. In fact, I spent more time on your father's estate and the related litigation than any other matter I handled over the last several years. We had a settlement conference at which I negotiated a resolution you were happy with, allowing you and your brothers to receive your Dad's jeep and two motorcycles, and nearly $16,000 cash, plus your fiduciary fees. Even with all of this work, my attorney fees were very reasonable, actually less than your fiduciary fees. Your brothers and you immediately agreed in writing to the amount of my fees. I don't understand how you can say you were taken advantage of. I am certain that without the work I did, the lawsuits filed by your step-mother's estate would have left nothing for you and your brothers.
