About me

After graduating from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, I joined the US Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service in New York, New York as a Special Agent. As an agent I was assigned to general investigations, ACIS and the fraud units. I also participated in the Vietnamese Resettlement program and was assigned to Ft. Smith, Arkansas. During these years I attend basic officer academy and journeyman officer academy in Los Fresnos, Texas.

In 1978 I was selected to transfer to Washington as deputy Chief, General Investigations for the INS. Duties included in addition to congressional liaison on the Simpson-Mazzoli Bill (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986), training for our Special Agents at the Immigration Officers Academy in Glynco, Georgia. Before moving on to Deputy District Director, I did a stint as special assistant to the Executive Associate Commissioner for Enforcement. In 1986 I was appointed District Director, having been at that time the youngest director in the INS.

Other assignments included assignments to Haiti, Cuba, Canada and Mexico as well as most of the US offices of the INS, including acting Regional Commissioner for the Eastern Region of INS managing the Eastern third of of the US with approximately 8,000 employees.

I received my law education including Dean's list honors and degree from Cleveland Marshall in 1991. I have been married happily for more than 40 years with three children and one grandchild.
