Life Lesson

Our Freshman Daughter was involved in a difficult situation including being assaulted and arrested. Jay was highly recommended by a fellow lawyer in Oxford and he proved why. We was very thorough and prompt and his local knowledge of the system proved invaluable. We would highly recommend Jay!

Review of attorney Jay Carmean

We live in the Chicago area. My college age daughter was arrested for "public drunk" in Oxford, MS. I was referred to Jay Carmean through my corporate legal service. Jay was extremely knowledgeable regarding the laws in Oxford and the history surrounding the current severity of this charge. Before I ...even hired him, at our first consultation, he spent over an hour with me on the phone explaining the process and what we could expect the outcome to be. I felt very comfortable during that session, that my daughter would be in good hands. I hired him at that point. He then set up a time to met with my daughter to explain what she could expect and what she would need to do, once these charges were processed. Throughout the whole process he was extremely kind and professional, always available. His office staff was very helpful as well. Since we are from out of state and not familiar with lawyers in Oxford, we were very fortunate to be referred to Mr. Carmean. I highly recommend him and his firm. I would not hesitate to use him in the future.

Service and Results Exceeded My Expectation

I made a poor choice deciding to drive after a day at Swayze field. I had been drinking and enjoying a Rebel win. Like many times before, I drove back to the hotel. This time, however, my luck ran out and I got caught. In the days after the incident, I became nervous about the repercussions I would ...soon endure. The financial cost, but more importantly the potential for it to affect my employment and family. I had never really been in trouble before, certainly not legal trouble. I had just made a mistake, a very poor decision. I was not a bad person although I now felt like I was. I had a friend that had a similar situation about a year before. I was nervous to approach him about it but, he being a reputable, respected businessman around Oxford, I knew he had been dealing with similar concerns (i.e., potential to affect career/employment). I spoke with him about his situation and he was adamant that I contact Tannehill, Carmean & McKenzie. He explained how pleased he was with how they were handling his situation and was confident that they were the right choice for me. I called their office asking to speak with Rhea Tannehill (my friend's attorney). After answering a few questions about my situation, they determined that Jay Carmean would be best suited to represent me. They explained that Jay had specific expertise around the particular issues in my situation such as the cause cited by the officer to stop me, field tests administered, and etc. Further, they explained that Jay was very familiar with the arresting officer and had experienced much prior success in cases with this particular officer. Obviously, relying on their judgment, I agreed to engage Jay to represent me. While I am sure I would have received terrific representation from Rhea, I did, in fact, receive it from Jay. I live 3 hours from Oxford. Jay proved that distance would not be an issue at all. Jay spent much time with me, particularly at the beginning, discussing my situation, gaining an understanding. He made me feel comfortable discussing my incident. An incident I was quite embarrassed about, and in some ways, ashamed. He explained his assessment based on my version of the events, the police report, dashboard video, and etc. He explained my options and his expectation of each option. Finally, he substantiated his recommendations on how to proceed (our strategy) in a way that made me feel good about our approach. He was very knowledgeable about the case law and was well-versed with the proposed/pending changes to the law. Based on this knowledge, part of our strategy involved delaying movement in my case until some anticipated changes to laws directly affecting my case went into effect. It was his opinion that these changes would be very favorable to my case. Long story short, my case was ultimately non-adjudicated meaning my arrest and conviction would be expunged from the record as long as I don't get arrested and convicted for it again. Obviously, I couldn't be more pleased with the result. My main concerns involving the effects on my career and family were now mitigated. No one would ever know which was so important to me. I was able to handle everything remotely and was guided by Jay and team through all the orders of the court to become in good standing again with State with no record of the incident going forward. I was guilty, so I consider myself blessed and lucky to have been referred to Jay and his Firm. One other aspect that I'd like to mention is his pricing model. I was very pleased with the fact that we discussed his fee at the beginning of the process and that fee was all-inclusive no matter what was required of my case. It is easy to think that an up-front, all-inclusive fee might motivate them to do less than all they could, but my experience was quite the opposite. It cost Jay add'l time and expense to appeal my case but he felt that was in my best interest. It was comforting to know that it was all covered. Thank you Jay and team.

Could not recommend more highly

I hired Jay in a panic after being threatened with what were in my opinion bogus charges. It was the best decision I could have made. Jay was so sympathetic to my situation and kept his word that he would make the whole thing go away before charges were even filed. He was absolutely wonderful, and I ...could not recommend him more highly. Jay was a complete professional, treated me with respect, listened to what I wanted, and acted accordingly. Even before everything was resolved, he was enormously reassuring in assuaging the panic and fear I felt at being in this situation. I'm not from the south and was terrified of both the charges and of being caught up in an unfamiliar legal system. Jay is not only an excellent lawyer, he is also a very well-connected local who left me completely reassured that he was doing everything in his power to resolve my situation satisfactorily. His rates were fair and reasonable and he explained them to us thoroughly. My husband and I will be recommending Jay to any of our friends and colleagues who ever need a lawyer. I would particularly recommend him if you’re not from the south and want someone local on your side, but to anyone who needs a lawyer, he is worth every penny and then some.

Jay Carmean is AWESOME!

As I entered this (already negative) situation, Jay helped me feel at ease from the very start and I had all the confidence in the world that he could help me overcome the circumstances. I am far from the stereotypical DUI offender, but nonetheless, I found myself in the situation and needed a reliab...le attorney to help me withhold my position at my work. I felt completely comfortable to confide in Jay, and felt that I was treated 100% fairly and reasonably. Any question or concern that I had was answered/responded to quickly, accurately, and confidentially. I would HIGHLY recommend Jay and, God forbid I find myself in another legal situation, I would hire Jay Carmean again in an instant.
