About me

I am admitted to practice law in the courts of Tennessee, Louisiana, D.C., and the Court of International Trade. I am also a licensed US Customs Broker.

I focus my legal practice on international trade, logistics, and maritime law. After earning my J.D. cum laude from The University of Tennessee College of Law, I began my legal career as Manager of Claims and Contracts at the headquarters of BBC Chartering & Logistic GmbH & Co. KG, in Leer, Germany. BBC operates one of the world’s largest fleets of break bulk vessels from approximately 30 offices in 24 countries.

After working for BBC, I attended Tulane, where I earned a Master of Laws in maritime law with distinction. During and after my LL.M. studies, I continued to represent ocean carriers and maritime companies in both transactional and litigation matters at Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr, and Smith in New Orleans. My work there included establishing complex joint ventures among international clients, reflagging commercial vessels, and obtaining facility clearance with the U.S. Department of Defense.

In September 2013, I moved to Memphis and joined Harris Shelton, where I continue my practice of international trade, logistics, and maritime law. Specifically, my practice includes strategic planning and dispute resolution related to:

International sales;
Foreign direct investment;
Cargo damage claims;
Unseaworthiness claims;
Jones Act;
Shipping intermediaries (freight forwarders, brokers, NVOCCs);
Import regulations and duties;
Export regulations (ITAR and EAR);
National Industrial Security Program;
Vessel charters and sales; and
US-flag regulations.

I have lived in France, Germany, Japan, and Thailand and have traveled extensively for both work and pleasure. I am adept at understanding the special needs of clients from various backgrounds, and I am available to my clients around the clock.
