Joy Day is one of only fourteen female lawyers in the State of Tennessee who is certified as a civil trial specialist by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification and the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education. With more than 150 days of trial to her credit, Joy has significant trial experience in high-exposure, complex cases and is more than comfortable in the courtroom.
Joy has enjoyed a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rating, the highest rating possible, since 2004. And she has been named a Mid-South Super Lawyer every year since 2009 -- only five percent of Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi lawyers are chosen each year.
Joy is licensed in state and federal courts in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan, and she has actively handled cases in each of those jurisdictions. Joy is also a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Listed General Civil Mediator.
Professional Activities
Joy is actively involved with the Tennessee Supreme Court Historical Society, where she currently serves as the organization's President-Elect and has previously held the position of Secretary. Joy served for six years on the Tennessee Commission for Continuing Legal Education and Specialization, where she was elected to both the position of Treasurer and Chair of the Commission. Joy also serves on the Content Review Board for the Tennessee Judiciary Museum.
Joy is a graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association's Leadership Law Program, and she has also served on the Tennessee Bar Association's Youth Court Advisory Board. In addition, she helped co-organize a Wills for Heroes event in Williamson County.
She was a founding member of Belmont University's American Inn of Courts and is a member of the John Marshall American Inn of Court. She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Michigan Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association, Kentucky Bar Association and Williamson County Bar Association.
Education
Joy attended the University of Tennessee in her hometown of Knoxville. She received her Bachelor of Arts in 1992. She began her law school career at the University of Tennessee but later transferred to Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1994, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Personal
Joy is married to John Day and is a mom to Kate Day and bonus mom to Sarah and Michael Day. She is an active volunteer at Scales Elementary. Because she is passionate about cooking, eating and drinking wine, she has also become quite fond of running and hiking.
