I hired Ross to help me with a zoning issue where my neighbor was attempting to build a large structure with an apartment on our shared property line. There was a long and confusing set circumstances and appeals were made to the Charleston BZA-Z and the SC circuit court. Ross came up to speed quickly on the facts of the case and was already familiar with the zoning laws involved and procedures surrounding the BZA-Z. He is friendly, intelligent, and incredibly passionate about zoning law and its powerful effect on people’s lives, people’s property, and the City of Charleston. The advice he gives is always intelligent and to the point. I never hesitate to ask him to explain anything as I know his answer will be direct and informed.
In comparison to other lawyers I have worked with, Ross is faster to respond to questions, easier get in touch with, and overall easier to work with. He is well spoken, great at presentations, and knows how to tailor his message to his audience. His presentations to the Charleston BZA-Z and circuit court were second to none and many of the neighbors who were present commented on that fact. He knew what the BZA-Z wanted to focus on vs. what the circuit court wanted to focus on.
I will hire Ross for any zoning work I need done in the future, large or small. I would also recommend Ross to others in need. Money well spent.

I highly recommend Ross A Appel. He worked diligently to represent my family and too obtain what was ours by law. His work ethic was of the highest standard, along with his integrity and character. All of our questions were answered in a timely manner and careful attention was given to every detail of our case. It was a pleasure working with Attorney Appel and if we need an attorney in the future we will retain his services.

JJR Development, LLC has a very diverse and significant real estate development practice in Charleston, SC- one of the most highly regulated environments in the US, based on our historical architecture and various rules to protect the city's international brand. Our business involves many facets; including entitlements, contracts, title work, and public hearings, amongst others. Accordingly, we are very "legal intensive", trying to solve issues up front. Our team is selective on who we use. It is my pleasure to say that Ross is part of a highly talented group that my company has for representation of our interests concerning contracts and titles. He is a supplement talented young man that has a great trajectory in his career and belongs to a quality firm affording him extra resources. I have also seen Ross represent many applicants at public hearings, and his presentation skills are extraordinary, as well as his mastery of complex issues and his capacity to communicate and advocate his client's position effectively. I would give Ross my highest recommendation based on experience and observation, and would not say it unless I meant it.
