I opened my law practice in the spring of 2000 looking for a challenge. Hoping to learn the practice of law from a broad perspective, I accepted cases in most practice areas. I've represented clients in bankruptcy matters, family law cases, personal injury lawsuits, Social Security Disability claims, tax controversies, contract negations, commercial litigation, criminal defense, and corporate law.
I am a board certified specialist in both consumer and business bankruptcy law by the NC State Bar. I am also certified in those areas by the American Board of Certification. I was named to the 2012 SuperLawyers "Rising Stars" list. I was asked to be a contributor to the upcoming NC Bankruptcy Practice Manual, 7th Ed., the definitive resource for Bankruptcy Law in NC. I was a contributing author to the 6th edition, which was published in 2007. I have taught continuing legal education classes in bankruptcy law to attorneys throughout NC and lectured on bankruptcy matters on numerous occasions to accountants, real estate professionals, and paralegal organizations. Since 1999 I have represented clients in almost 2000 bankruptcy cases.
Although I enjoy most legal practice areas, bankruptcy law is my passion. I realize that this may sound odd; however, I enjoy it because I enjoy helping people. My practice involves helping people and small businesses through a transformation. Bankruptcy is usually a proactive and transformative act. I like showing people that there is a way out of debt and a way to begin their lives again. I also enjoy creative problem solving. My bankruptcy practice provides that opportunity every day.
