About Allen Brotherton

About me

Allen Brotherton is a trial lawyer, plain and simple. He has 30 years of experience trying a wide range of courtroom matters with an emphasis on defending people charged with crimes. Allen has successfully handled virtually every type of criminal charge: from traffic tickets and DWI charges, through larceny, drug conspiracy and money laundering charges all the way up to first-degree murder. Allen is in court literally every day and has a knack for maintaining an excellent working relationship with prosecutors, judges, police officers and clerks while vigorously fighting to defend his clients.

Allen also has extensive experience in handling appeals in all appellate courts.  For a recent example, see State v. Yencer, 696 S.E.2d 875 (2010), raising a First Amendment challenge to the exercise of police power by the Davidson College Campus Police.
In addition, Allen has successfully handled civil matters in a wide array of areas, including personal injury, condemnation of real property, and breach of contract.

Allen was born and raised just outside of Charlotte and his distinguished undergraduate and law school career at UNC included induction into the Phi Eta Sigma honor society and being awarded the prestigious Morehead Scholarship. He is active in Mecklenburg Community Church and loves spending time with his wife, Lynn, and sons, Haynes and Gray.
