About Michael

Learn Michael’s areas of practice.

I take a  hands on approach to helping my clients.   I believe clients have a right to speak with their  attorney directly rather than going through a paralegal.  Thus, I return calls and emails promptly (i.e. within 24 hours), and encourage my clients to call or email me directly rather than going through a paralegal.  Unlike with many law offices, the first time you set foot in my office for a consultation, you will personally sit down and speak with me, rather than a paralegal about all of the legal issues in your case.  I don't believe in advertising on TV and billboards, because the economics of that kind of advertising would requiring me to spend less time and effort on each of my client's cases.

Effective and compassionate
As a requirement of my private disability policy from my former employer, I had to apply for SS Disability in my second year of getting benefits from that private policy. Mr. Bertics was informative, made the paperwork seamless including the required documentation from my physicians, compassionate and understanding, very generous with his time, extremely patient, and responsive. He's passionate about his work and helping others and I'm not sure I've met a kinder attorney who is also extremely effective. I can't recommend him enough!

Mr. Bertics Help My Inital SS Application Get Approved
I was a nurse and had to undergo hip replacement. Being overwhelmed with the process of applying for disability, my neighbor recommended using disability attorney Michael Bertics. Mr. Bertics has a very good manner with his clients and is a compassionate attorney. With his help, I got approved for disability the first time around. I highly recommend this attorney.

Mr. Bertics Won My Daughter's Disability Case
When my adult daughter received a Notice of Cessation from Social Security, we were frantic. I knew we needed the help of a disability lawyer. I called 15 disability attorneys in the Raleigh area, and Michael Bertics was the only lawyer who would take a Notice of Cessation case. From the onset, Mr. Bertics was compassionate and helpful. Once all the medical reports were obtained, he advised me of the problem areas in the current medical reports and the DDSs psychologist report and outlined what I needed to do and how he would fix things. Plus, he advised we get a psychiatrist instead of a nurse practitioner and switch providers. All around, Mr. Bertics was upfront – it was a difficult case. The only reason why she was treating with this provider under a nurse practitioner was because we couldn’t find any psychiatrists who took Medicare/Medicaid. Through persistence, we finally found one that did. Plus, he advised me of his legal theory and strategy to have the decision overturned. Mr. Bertics prepped both myself and my daughter for testimony at the reconsideration hearing at Social Security. We just received notice that the hearing officer decided she was disabled and benefits would continue. Keep in mind that only 10 percent of cases get overturned at this hearing level. We were fortunate to have Mr. Bertics as our disability attorney. If you’re having trouble with your disability claim, I highly recommend seeking the legal expertise of Mr. Bertics.
