Thanks to Ed Riley and his excellent staff at Riley & Wells, my traffic violation was greatly reduced. They gave me good advice from the very beginning and shepherded me through the whole process. Everyone from Mr. Riley to his paralegals, was professional, friendly, and highly competent. I stron...gly recommend Ed and his team when you need a lawyer for traffic related offenses and refer people to him regularly. Don't take chances with your driving record, get the professional assistance you need for a good outcome.

Excellent Criminal Defense. Thank you Mr. Riley!!

Twice I have been charged with assault on a family member. Mr. Riley took my case both times. He was able to get the first case dropped by negotiating with the Commonwealth and not even making an appearance. He came to court with me the second time. Spoke with the responding officer and the commonw...ealth attorney and once again was able to get the charges dropped. Thanks to Mr. Riley I was only in the court room for a few minutes. He has a thorough understanding of the law and his ability to negotiate is incredible. Both instances were very stressful not knowing what was going to happen or how my life was going to be impacted, but Mr. Riley put me at ease every time we talked. I could not be happier with the results or how my case was handled from beginning to end. If you are charged don't take any chances hire Riley & Wells to handle your case. I would recommend them to anyone.

If you're in a time of crisis, make the right choice.

If you're searching this site it is safe to say life has thrown you a curve ball. If so then I have 2 things to say to you. First, I whole heartedly and enthusiastically recommend and KNOW you should choose Mr. Riley and the associates at Riley and Wells. Secondly, you need to read my entire review a...s I will give you a snapshot of my experience and only a brief explanation of all the many ways Mr. Riley served me with dedication, intelligence, compassion, knowledge and skill. So please, read on. It's important for you to know a bit about me and my situation. I am prior military, have a degree in science and emergency medicine, I have licensure as a broker/financial advisor and I am currently a student again. I have many tours overseas and have been settling into my civilian life. In the past few years I experienced my greatest trials and tribulations. A vindictive ex-wife upset our son requested to live with me full time. This led to the most tumultuous 2.5-3 years of my life. I battled a corrupt judge, gave all my money to a "high profile lawyer" who literally only took my money, every cent from the IRA, 401k, savings, and mattress. It worked out in the end but through my own actions, investigations into the judge, and preparing all my own hearings with no credit to any attorney. Recently I found my life upside down again when I was involved in a bar fight where an aggressive patron assaulted me and some friends 3 separate times! His first 2 fights were met with the least amount of force and we asked him to stop, the third time he had to be subdued. Unfortunately he sustained a minor broken bone. There was video evidence of this, but conveniently for the prosecutor there was only fragmented video evidence of the last altercation. We faced 2 felonies each. I thought my life was over. I searched and researched lawyer after lawyer. I retained one and when I noticed the same tendancies I experienced before, I found Mr. Riley and he accepted the case. Now during this time he worked with the commonwealth, the other defense attorneys involved, and corresponded with me regularly. However, I live out of VA, far out of VA and I was falling apart, understandably so. I expected my experience with Mr. Riley to be the same as I had before. I began not communicating, making his job difficult. His office, his assistants, and Mr. Riley himself, not jaded by all the decades of experience doing this job, viewed me through a lens of compassion and understanding, despite making the preparations leading up difficult for him. I was not helping him help me and who wants a client like that? Despite this they continued diligently working on my case and never judging or chastising me. I was never harassed about money and never was there "unexpected fees". As the trial approached I pulled myself together. I'd prepared for the worst then I met with him the days leading up to the trial, we spoke and planned late into his evenings. He put hours upon hours upon hours of time in working with the other attorneys for months. They had a rock solid plan, based solely on the truth and found ways to prove there were 2 altercations leading up to this event, and the "alleged victim" was in fact the aggressor. I was so calm the day of the trial. Mr. Riley expertly navigated the court, the prosecutor, the facts, the cross examination of "victim". HE NAILED IT. His almost 3 decades in practice have honed him into a skilled, accurate, tactful, aggressive, and diligent defense attorney. His empiric knowledge of the law, case law, and experiences in court are worth every cent and more. I gave my back story and case synopsis so you'd understand I've been there, you're in a bad spot and what you do next is crucial to having your life back. If you want your life back, if you want someone to fight for you, if you want to be where I am now, moving on with my life, putting this behind me, then your only choice is to HIRE MR. RILEY and his team. Don't risk it. He saved my life.

First Class Representation

It is without reservation that I recommend Attorney Ed Riley and the legal team of Riley & Wells Attorneys-At-Law. I was arrested for attempting to bribe a police officer and DUI second offense within 5 years. I was terrified and a nervous wreck. In all aspects of their representation, Mr. Riley and ...the firm conducted themselves in a most competent and professional manner. Also, at a time that was most difficult for me and my family, they were very understanding and sincere in their approach with us. Mr. Riley was able to successfully resolve my case by convincing the prosecution or the Court to have the felony completely dropped and the DUI reduced to a first offense. I could not be more pleased with the representation. This is a first class group who know how to get things done. We wouldn’t hesitate to seek out their counsel in the future should the need arise.

Terrible experience & result with my reckless driving ticket

I retained Mr. Riley when I got a reckless driving in a school zone ticket. I paid twice as much as others I found for Mr. Riley's experience and ratings online. I feel that I got a less than satisfactory outcome as a direct result of hiring Mr. Riley. I'll tell you below why I think that had I reta...ined different counsel, or none at all, I would have gotten the same result AT WORST, and likely would have gotten a complete dismissal. Regarding responsiveness, the office replied pretty quickly until I paid the fee, and then it took 3 weeks and several calls to respond to my questions. Mr. Riley advised me not to come to court, and I now know why. When I told him I wanted to come, he said to meet him at 9:15. My court time was 9:30. He didn't show up until 10:15, but luckily they hadn't called my case yet. From my own research, I told Mr. Riley that the school zone hours were between 8:30 and 9:00. My ticket had 8:30 written as the time of offense, and I told him that I didn't think that the school zone lights were flashing when I was pulled. The officer then offered a layup in court when he told the judge the incorrect school zone time of 8-8:30, and said that the time he pulled me was 8:20. At this point, I would have piped up, but Mr. Riley advised me to let him do all of the talking. When I realized my lawyer wasn't going to say anything, I whispered to him that the officer said the wrong time. Not only did he not point out the mistake the officer made, but he actually corrected the officer in the time that he said he pulled me! Mr. Riley admitted later that he "made a tactical error" in court by not addressing the thing that would have repudiated the charges against me. You think? A lady after me (she didn't have a lawyer) who was charged with speeding in a school zone by the same officer, argued the timing to the judge. With much less of a case than me, the judge still gave her the "benefit of the doubt" and dismissed her ticket altogether. She didn't have a +5 driving record like me, which was the only thing my lawyer argued on my behalf. Another grievance: based on my conversations with other lawyers who have dealt with this officer before, I told Mr. Riley that the officer seemed agitated and that he would say that I was weaving in and out of traffic. I countered by laying out my case and providing pictures to Mr. Riley. The day of court, Mr. Riley told me that the officer didn't have any paperwork and would be passive in front of the judge. The officer, in fact, was the opposite of passive, and said pretty much exactly what I told my lawyer he would say. Mr. Riley didn't refute with anything we had discussed, and didn't produce the pictures I had given him. He just said that I had a "great driving record." He admitted to me afterwards that he "misread" the officer. So much for the experience I paid so much for. My observation was that this judge had been lenient all morning, and actually gave me relatively one of the harshest judgments I heard. While I did get a reckless reduced to speeding, it was only after I took a very time consuming (all weekend) and expensive RADEP course. I still got the ticket fines/fees, still got the charge on my record, and still got the insurance points.
