An off duty Dinwiddie County Deputy Sheriff killed his brother in self-defense with one shot from a pistol. The prosectution arrested Terrell Coles and charged him with murder in the second degree. Riley & Wells Attorneys-At-Law represented Mr. Coles and convinced the prosecution the case was a matter of justifiable self-defense. The Commonwealth's Attorney subsequently dropped the case on a Motion to Nolle Prosequi.

Gary Dwight Brannon was erroneously convicted in a bench trial for felony leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury, in violation of Code § 46.2-894. Riley & Wells Attorneys-At-Law appealed the matter to the Virginia Court of Appeals. The Court of Appeals agreed with the arguments our firm made on behalf of Mr. Brannon and reversed and dismissed the case.
