About me

John graduated from the William & Mary Law School. Since then, he has practiced in the areas of civil litigation in Virginia's state and federal courts, land use, and business law. His clients include individuals and business owners throughout the greater Williamsburg area.

John has extensive courtroom experience. More importantly for our clients, John has extensive experience in negotiating and mediating disputes. Our clients know that John will look out for their interests and is willing and able to take a matter to trial, but also experienced in alternatives to litigation to meet our clients' goals at the lowest possible cost.

John represents numerous local businesses. As the owner of his own small business, John is aware of the issues entrepreneurs face, including contractual issues, employment issues, and leasing issues, among others. John served on the City of Williamsburg's Economic Development Authority and provides years of knowledgeable experience in local economic conditions and opportunities.

John has earned the respect of the local legal community and has served since 1998 as a Commissioner of Chancery and since 2004 as a Judge Pro Tempore in the 9th Judicial Circuit, hearing and ruling on dozens of cases.

In the community, John has served on several boards of local nonprofit organizations. He is active in many professional organizations as well. John is a member of the Williamsburg Bar Association—where he served as President and Vice-President—the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Virginia State Bar. Currently John serves on the Virginia State Bar Council as the representative for the 9th Judicial Circuit which encompasses, among other areas, Williamsburg, James City County, York County, and Gloucester.

For 10 years, John has taught at the William & Mary Law School as an adjunct professor covering classes in professional responsibility, legal writing, and trial practice.

John received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from Penn State University.
