    This relies on so many factors not the least of which settlement/prelitigation strategy. You may want to discuss your case with an attorney. An attorney would take a share of the settlement, but you still may end up with more than if you did on your own. Insurance companies simply don't take unrepresented parties very seriously and will often needlessly delay settlement in order to let the statute of limitations run.
