About me

I am a member of LeClairRyan’s Business Litigation Practice. I have extensive experience in complex business litigation and counseling for clients in the financial services and insurance industries, and have handled hundreds of cases at all levels of state and federal courts and in commercial arbitrations throughout many jurisdictions around the country.

My practice focuses on the defense of financial institutions in commercial and consumer litigation in the Mid-Atlantic region and nationally. I have experience managing individual, class action and other multi-party litigation for several financial institutions, developing and implementing coordinated litigation strategies to resolve those matters favorably.  I have experience managing all aspects of litigation, including settlement negotiations, mediations, litigation strategy, and local counsel. I regularly prepare corporate witnesses for depositions, testimony and mediations and have experience in representing clients in various forms of alternative dispute resolution, including private mediation and commercial arbitration. My experience includes complex commercial, real estate, consumer, and loan-level litigation related to consumer lending, including interbank disputes involving M&A issues and loan participations, as well as suits alleging a variety of Federal consumer credit protection claims, including the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA), and Higher Education Act (HEA). I have handled litigation involving a wide variety of financial products and issues. I also counsel my clients on compliance issues to mitigate ongoing litigation risk.

Outside of the financial services and insurance industries, I provide litigation services for a wide variety of matters arising out of commercial and business disputes. I have experience with complex commercial litigation and counsel clients across a broad spectrum of issues, including contract matters, M&A litigation, real estate disputes, alternative dispute resolution, negotiated settlements, and risk management matters.

I endorse this lawyer. Doug and I worked together for many years at Miles and Stockbridge PC. I have worked closely with him on numerous matters. Doug is a exceptional advocate because he sees the big picture but is equally as effective at managing the small details of any case. I highly recommend his services.
