We used Michelle Zavos and her firm to help us obtain a second parent adoption in DC and to put my husband on the birth certificate in Ohio. While DC is very progressive and the adoption was easily accomplished, we really relied on Zavos' expertise in navigating the system in Ohio where the law is not clear on placing a gay couple on a child's birth certificate. Zavos and her team made it happen for us and we are very grateful.

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton could not have put it in better terms when she characterized Atty. Michele Zavos's law firm as an "Angel in Adoption."
Because that's what Zavos Juncker Law Group has been for my family. My new family, that is.
Last summer my family consisted only of myself and my then 3-year old female Chihuahua terrier Queenie, but we were expecting to expand. As I had just been licensed by DC's Child and Family Services Agency as a traditional foster/adoptive parent, Queenie and I were waiting for a sibling pair from the DC foster care system to join our household.
Then came an unexpected plea from my family in the Philippines. They told me that a second cousin of mine, a 15-year old boy born in Guam but brought to and abandoned in the Philippines by her parents when he was barely two years old, had tried to commit suicide by drinking lye.
Since the time of abandonment by his biological parents, the boy had been bounced around between different placement families through the years. Apparently, he had been left alone by his most recent placement family, without food or money, for more than two weeks in May 2016. The boy then presumably reached a point of desperation, a point too much for his young mind to take, that he decided to end it all.
Fortunately, his suicide attempt was unsuccessful. However, the poison he drank so damaged his digestive system that nothing can pass through his esophagus, not even his own saliva. A surgeon had to insert a feeding tube below his stomach so that pureed food can be manually delivered to his body. With no access to quality health care, he immediately faced imminent death.
After hearing this boy's story, I decided to adopt him instead. I read portions of the DC Code pertinent to adoptions, and found a possible relief via an interlocutory adoption decree.
In early August 2016, acting pro se, I filed a petition with the DC Superior to adopt the boy, requesting for an immediate hearing for entry of an interlocutory decree of adoption so that I can go to the Philippines, apply for a U.S. passport on behalf of the boy, repatriate him to the United States, and save his life.
The judge quickly denied my request. In an Order containing a hardly ambiguous language, the judge told me to, well, hire a lawyer.
And so I did. After reading Avvo reviews of adoption lawyers, I had no doubt that Atty. Zavos was the one.
I will skip the details of the story, but the long and short of it is that with Atty. Zavos's help, the judge eventually issued the Interlocutory decree of adoption, I was able to repatriate the boy to the United States, put him under my insurance, and give him a new chance at life. He and I are now just days away from finalizing our adoption case.
Although the boy, my son, is still on a feeding tube, and it will take a while before the surgery that will hopefully restore his ability to eat and drink by mouth can be performed, there is no doubt in my mind that he will recover fully from it all. And everything is because of Atty. Zavos and her law firm.
So, like I said in the beginning of this review, I concur with Congresswoman Holmes that Zavos Juncker Law Group is an Angel in Adoption.

We had a wonderful experience working with Michele to develop a contract with our sperm donor and his partner. She and her staff were warm, non-judgmental and approachable for questions big and small. They explained the entire process clearly and helped us think through important scenarios that we would not have thought of on our own. When we found ourselves facing a situation that required swift action (and over the holidays, no less!), Michele and her staff went above and beyond to make sure we could get the contract completed and signed in time. Throughout the process, we always felt like she wanted the best for our family over the long-term and we really appreciate her experience and counsel.

We have been working with Michele Zavos and her firm for over five years and couldn't be happier. Estate planning is an important process that many families avoid because of the uncomfortable feelings that get stirred up when imagining a worst case scenario that involves your kids. From the moment we met with her, we knew we had come to the right place. Michele has a way of putting you at ease, explaining complex legal issues in simple and clear language. She has been a wonderful advisor and advocate, steering us through the estate planning process and allowing us to feel secure in our decisions. We went back to her again this year to revise/update our documents, as she had recommended, and we had the same lovely experience. She was also great at coordinating plans with our financial planner and accountant, assuring that our decisions were supported holistically. If only every doctor, bank, financial planner and accountant could provide such clear, consistent and helpful advice and service like Michele offers, we'd have found Utopia.

Ms. Zavos and her team researched the family court legal history and found elements that other attorneys had overlooked. Her work set a precedent in this area. The judge praised her essential research and was genuinely in awe of her and our case. He called us back into the court to express his sincere thanks for giving him the opportunity to bring the case to justice. We will be forever grateful to her.

Working with Michele Davos has given me and my family the confidence that if the worst - or just the bumps of life - befall us, we are protected. More than that, she has ensured that we breathe easily all the rest of the time. As a lesbian couple with a new child in a changing landscape of marriage equality it is difficult to know what we need to do to ensure we have full protection no matter where we are and to anticipate what protections we will need as the legal landscape continues to shift. Michele offers not only great legal advice, she is at the top of her field and can offer top notch guidance on the possible changing policy landscape and anticipate the legal protections we will need in various eventualities. I have and will continue to recommend Michele to many friends - gay and straight - as someone who will put the best interests of their family first.

I have been a client of Michelle's for 20+ years. 2014 found me in a very stressful situation. Michelle and her staff offered great, compassionate advice and followed through with a winning legal strategy. It felt great to have smart, caring people in my corner. I’m very happy with the way Michelle handled everything!

My wife and I came to Michele after being let down by another estates lawyer. She was patient, kind, responsive, and expert on all the various elements we needed to prepare for our estate package. She and her team helped us through the process efficiently and effectively, and we feel like our affairs are in excellent order having worked with Michele. I could not recommend her more highly.

Michele and her team were instrumental with our adoption! We were feeling frustrated and defeated in our journey to have a child. After one visit with Michele we were optimistic and excited. She pointed us in the right direction and was there for us when we needed her. We are extremely grateful to her and all of her staff. We can't recommend the Zavos Juncker Law Group enough!!!
