I paid this lawyer a reduced flat fee of $2700 upfront to handle my immigration case. When we called to ask her questions, she was never around and never personally called us back. She also took a while to respond to email inquiries and didn't fully answer our questions. After a year and a half of... nothing really happening with our case, we decided to try to fill the papers out on our own...which we managed to do rather quickly. We asked for a refund since nothing had been done on our case and were informed that our file would be reviewed and a refund would be returned in about a month. We called again after a little over a month and were informed that it was still not ready and that we needed to wait another few weeks. We emailed Ms. Landeo several times over the course of the next few months and only after 4 months did we ever receive a reply...which was extremely rudely worded. She then informed us that our entire balance and then some had been used in preparing documents for us. I asked to at least receive copies of any documents that had been prepared for us but never received a response to that. When I finally received an invoice almost 5 months after I had initially requested one, I discovered that I had been charged anytime she had talked to her office manager about the case or had glanced at the file cabinet but didn't do any actual work. I was not ok with her never directly communicating with me and then charging me for hours of her time to talk to her office manager...especially when the office manager then charged us for her time as she tried to answer our questions when we called in...but did not have the expertise to fully answer our inquiries. I was also not happy that we were charged $2700 and I received no evidence that anything was ever produced or filed. I have no idea of her actual knowledge of immigration law because I never saw or heard anything that required knowledge beyond where to get the immigration forms.
