My wife and I were very pleased with Mr. Lurye. He explained everything to us in detail and was very helpful through the whole process. From the first phone call to the actual court date, he was terrific. He not only helped me get a favorable outcome but I learned a lot from him as well. I would recommend him to anyone.

Rick Lurye's excellent skills as a lawyer are only surpassed by his kindness and compassion as a human being. He's really the kind of person that cares about his clients and goes above and beyond to be supporting, both legally and emotionally. Facing a DUI was a really scary and stressful situation and Rick went out of his way to make me feel safe and prepared. The very first time I called him he walked me through a lot of the steps I needed to take and various outcomes I should be prepared for, all before I even hired him! He was honest, upfront, and reassuring so I had no hesitation in asking him to represent me. He expects the same commitment to the case from his clients as he does from himself so there's a good amount of effort you will need to put into preparation for court, but it definitely pays off! Personally I entered court with several alarming factors from the time of my arrest, including a very high blood alcohol concentration, but I left with an awesome result. My verdict was definitely one of a kind and we were even stopped by a few lawyers and defendants to congratulate us on the way out. Like I said, this wasn't a typical result, but I'm confident that any client of Rick's will leave court with the best result possible for their case. I think I've gone on enough but I really mean every word I said! If you're taking your case seriously and are willing to put in the work to make sure you can put it behind you and move on with your life, you couldn't be in better hands.

I found Richard back in March 2016, having been cited for dui, dwi, negligent driving, & failure to obey a traffic device (skipped a red light). Several years back I’d been charged with my first dui, and even though that judge downgraded it to negligent driving, I knew the stakes were higher with a second charge. So I spent a couple of days shopping around for good representation, and this time had to be different. I was seriously looking to change my lifestyle/behavior, not just for a favorable legal outcome. All the attorneys I found were only concerned with the latter, until I met Richard.
Richard took the time to listen to my concerns. He inquired into details that other attorneys didn’t bother. He was concerned not only about what happened but how I felt about it, and any personal changes I wanted to make in the interest of preventing similar outcomes in the future. From our first conversation it was clear that he understood me and was looking out for my legal and other personal interests. I know he was genuinely looking out for me since he offered a wealth of guidance and legal advice prior retaining him.
After consulting with my wife, we decided to retain Richard, looking back, it was the right call. I’ve dealt with other professionals and attorneys and Richard simply operates at a higher level. Some people give you the run around, especially when they know you have no recourse. But Richard is warm, professional, reliable, very friendly, candid, genuinely a good person. When he talks, you can tell he has taken the time to formulate clear, coherent thoughts. He’s not looking to dazzle with jargon, he wants you to be as clear as possible regarding the matter.
I’m not going to review everything Richard did to prepare me for my court date, suffice to say it was a well thought out plan and I’m glad he guided me through it. Some of the activities required more time and effort on my part, but again, Richard was there to encourage and remind me why it was important.
A week before my court date, we met to review our strategy and court procedures. Here’s another area where Richard shined. Not only did he verbally review everything with me, he also documented it so I could review after our meeting. He even took the time to provide some court documents so I could pre-fill them ahead of time and focus on the case.
On my court date (Nov), he arrived head of time to welcome my wife and I. Little things such as this make a difference to me. As we walked in to the building and court room, he was there to put us at ease, reminding us that we were ready and everything would be ok. And that’s exactly how it turned out. In the end I received a favorable outcome—unsupervised pbj for a month! And the judge even commended me in my attempts to make amends prior to my court date, all thanks to Richard.
There’re several ways my situation could have going south, but thanks to Richard it didn’t. I can’t guarantee you’ll receive a similar outcome, but I’m tell you Richard is trustworthy. He will help you with our legal woes as best he can, and help you consider lifestyle changes for the better. I can honestly say I’m a better person having known him. Thank you Richard :)

I received my first (and hopefully last) DUI earlier in the year and contacted Richard after my wife asked for recommendations on various family message boards. My case was unique because I was also driving with my children at the time of my stop (I was initially pulled over for expired tags and when the officer noticed the smell of alcohol on me proceeded to do field tests and take me in).
Richard was very patient and kind during our first conversation. He took the time to hear my story and get to know my background and family history. This allowed me to get comfortable with using him as my lawyer for my case.
The actions and steps Richard advised me to take leading up to my case helped tremendously. He encouraged me to enroll in several alcohol related counseling programs along with volunteering a few hours at a non-profit. I also voluntarily installed an interlock in my vehicle at his suggestion due to the unique circumstance of my case involving getting my DUI with children in my car. Finally, he tasked me with reading a book about alcohol and to write an essay about what I learned in the book along with the knowledge I gained attending alcohol related counseling.
All throughout, Richard was kind, patient, and understanding. He carefully explained possible outcomes to my trial and ensured that was fully prepared on what to say and what to expect as punishment for my actions. He answered questions in kind and made sure you understood him before moving on to another topic. Based on hearing the stories of others dealing with DUIs during my counseling, I could tell that my experience with Richard was unique and that he unlike some, cared for his client.
In the end, I received 9 months of unsupervised probation and 24 hours of community service. I essentially received a PBJ which is the best possibly outcome I could get considering my situation. I owe all of this to the actions and steps Richard recommended me to take leading up to my trial for the favorable outcome. While, I cannot promise a similar outcome if you hire Richard, I can say with confidence that he will work hard for you and make sure you take any and all steps to avoid the maximum penalty for your DUI. Thank you Richard.

I am blessed to come to know Mr. Lurye. He represented me beyond my expectations. Mr. Lurye prepared me for court from the first moment I spoke with him. He told me what I need to know at each step of the process so that I was ready for trial. He is very proactive. I was ready for court and he presented my best self as a trustworthy person to the court. He showed the court all of my efforts and that I changed following the incident. He motivated me and encouraged me. He listened to all my concerns carefully and advised me wisely. He even structured my payment so that I can pay every two weeks. He has a realistic approach to get the desired result. Mr. Lurye helped me through a very difficult time in my life that could have destroyed my career and my family’s future. In the end, I am very happy with the results of this case. See the citation, the strategy and result below.
1. Driving under the influence of alcohol
2. Driving vehicle while under the influence of alcohol
3. Driving while impaired by alcohol
4. Failure to display registration card upon demand by police officer
5. Negligent driving vehicle in careless and imprudent manner endangering property, life and person
6. Reckless driving vehicle in wanton and willful disregard for safety of persons and property
7. Failure of dr. to make lane change to avail. lane not immed. adj. to stopped emerg. veh
Strategy: Mr. Lurye advised me to complete the following before the court date which helped me in the court and helped me gain new knowledge.
1. Enroll in a substance abuse program
2. Read a book and write a 3-page essay
3. Attend a PADDD class
4. Complete community service
DUI charge was dropped. DWI charge was changed to probation before judgment for 1 day. The moving violations were dropped and I was charged with a much less serious charge (negligent driving, 1 point).

Richard was extremely helpful, calm, and comforting. He understood my situation while I was panicky and unclear. He answered my questions though I could not formulate them, and showed me a clear path toward illuminating the most dark and puzzling time that I have experienced in this lifetime. Thank you. Maybe I will see you later.

I was in need of a DUI lawyer after breathing a level of .20, which is considered extremely high. After reading all his reviews, Mr. Lurye appeared to be very professional and genuine. I hired him right after our consultation, because he made me feel calm and walked me through all of the steps. He made sure to explain everything in detail so that I fully understood what I was getting into.
Though the DUI was my first offense, the breath alcohol content of a .20 was the issue. Mr. Lurye gave me a long list of things to do to help my case and teach me a lesson.
He advised me to:
Enroll in a substance abuse program (which I had 26 weeks to complete in order to pass the class)
Read a book and write a 3-page essay about the dangers of driving intoxicated
Get an interlock installed in my car
Attend a PADDD class
Complete hours of community service (I completed 60 hours)
Attended some AA meetings (I attended about 4)
The list is long and can be time consuming, but it is important to do everything Mr. Lurye suggests if you want the best possible outcome for your case. He gave me advice like he would if I was his daughter, which made me feel he was genuinely helping me.
A BAC level of .20 was a concern for the judge, but after seeing everything I completed prior to going to court made all the difference. He said, "There is nothing that I can have you complete that Mr. Lurye already hasn't." I got a PBJ (Probation before judgement) and one day of probation unsupervised. It felt so good to put everything behind me and I surely learned my lesson.

Mr. Lurye helped me through one of the most difficult situations of my life. I was 21 years old, interning and living out of state (I'm a licensed NY driver), and was arrested with a BAC of .16. Having had absolutely zero experience with the law previously, I did not know what to do. From our first conversation, Mr. Lurye took the time to get to know me and my situation. Too make matters even more stressful, from the time of my arrest to my court hearing, I moved 6 times between 4 different states. Mr. Lurye understood all of this and always helped keep me calm and informed. He was extremely reachable, and responded to my emails, calls or texts almost immediately, even on some holidays! As part of our preparation for court, he gave me a list of tasks to accomplish to present myself as best as possible in court. This list included such items as attending AA meetings, a state certified alcohol education program, reading a book on alcoholism and writing a reflection, completing community service, along with several other items. Although it was a lot to do, it proved extremely beneficial in the long run. As court approached, Mr. Lurye made sure that I was aware of everything that I would experience on the day of court. When we walked into the courthouse, it was immediately clear how respected Mr. Lurye is in his field. Everyone from security, to other defense attorneys, to the judges, all knew Mr. Lurye and spoke very highly of him. When it was all said and done, I was granted a very favorable judgement of Probation Before Judgement, 4 months of probation (with some criteria waved), and a fraction of the possible fine. I am, and always will be extremely thankful for the help and guidance that Mr. Lurye has given me over the past year as I have been overcoming one of the most difficult situations of my life.
