When I was charged with DUI, DWI, and failure to obey a roadway sign, I knew I was in trouble. After some of the shock wore off in the morning I started calling friends and family for support and advice. My father’s advice was to: “hire a local attorney who specializes in DUI and knows the local cour...t. Local is key because relationships count when it comes to making a good deal” A friend at a DC law firm offered similar advice and recommend John Bonita as an attorney to interview, as “he is local, has a good reputation, and can help you navigate the court process”. I gave John a call and I’m glad I did as he quickly won me over with his personality and aggressive, no frills service. John is a retired Arlington Police officer who took up a second career as an attorney who specializes in DUI. I have little experience in these matters, but my impression is John is probably in the top 10% of DUI attorneys in Virginia. However I will say I avoided jail time, and John was very successful in getting the judge and prosecutor to see me and my case as human and an individual vice a statistic or category of offender. John’s personal relationship with officers of the court was essential in this process as a lot of conversation occurs outside the courtroom. This is not to imply the prosecutors are not professional or that John will not fight for you if it is required, but when it comes to working out a deal, knowing the man across the table from you goes a long way to getting the best possible outcome for a client.
