This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority.
Public reprimand means an attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State gives the lawyer a public reprimand in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.
Suspension means an attorney will lose his or her license to practice law for a period of time. When a suspension is stayed and the attorney is given probation, the State monitors the attorney's activities for a time. If the probation period is uneventful, the attorney returns to practice when it expires.

Put everything in writing and make him sign a receipt for any of your notices or requests. You should be kept informed of how long the meter has been ticking, before the retainer is gone and he comes back to you for double that to finish the job. His bookkeeping is atrocious. After many requests for a statement of my account with him, I received nothing until well after he exhausted the retainer and he wanted much more to continue. All that he accomplished could have been done by anyone with a high school education. It was a slam dunk even before he got the case.

Mr. O'Brien represented me in a lengthy and complicated case that involved a large estate and a guardianship issue. He was very knowledgeable in all the intricacies of the law and put in a lot of time and effort to win the case. He is very persistent.

Dealing with Mr O'Brien was a horrible experience. I spent more time trying to communicate with him than getting results. Had to go to another attorney to get issue resolved.
