Lawrence R. Chaban is a life-long Pittsburgh resident. He was born in the East End of Pittsburgh and grew up in Mt. Lebanon where he currently lives. His primary areas of practice are in Workers’ Compensation, social security disability and labor/employment law, representing plaintiffs and employees. Larry received his BA (1977) and JD (1980) degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, both with honors. Larry has been admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 1980. He is also admitted in the Court of Appeals for the Third, Fourth and Sixth Circuits and the District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
He is a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations, the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, the National Employment Lawyers Association and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Practitioners. Larry started his career in Washington, PA with one of the leading firms in Workers’ Compensation. This led him to practice before Workers’ Compensation judges throughout the western half of the state, as far as Erie and Bellefonte. He also received his background in labor law from one of the leading coal field practitioners. In 2003, Larry moved his practice to Pittsburgh as of counsel to Lydon & Schubert, subsequently AlpernSchubert.
Larry is a Certified Workers’ Compensation Law Specialist in Pennsylvania since certification has been permitted. He also is recognized for his Workers’ Compensation practice in The Best Lawyers in America and as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer. He lectures frequently for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, Pennsylvania Associations for Justice, employer/insurer organizations and the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation on Workers’ Compensation. Larry has also written a number of amicus briefs for Pennsylvania Association for Justice amicus committee on important workers compensation topics before the Supreme Court and Commonwealth Court. For this work, he has been awarded the George F. Douglas Amicus Curiae Award in 2007 by the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. Larry served as the Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Section of Pennsylvania Association for Justice from 2005-2007 and served as chair of its Amicus Committee from 2009-2011.
While chair of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice he played a direct role in negotiating and writing the 2006 amendments to the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Act. He sits on the council for the Pennsylvania Bar Association Worker’s Compensation Section, where he served as Chair in 2011-2012. In March 2013, Larry was inducted as a Fellow of the College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers an invitation only organization of the leading workers’ compensation attorneys across the United States. Larry has also been appointed to the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council which is created under the PA Workers’ Compensation Act in October 2015 and serves as Employee Co-Chair.

I solely represent injured workers' in Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Cases, including claims, modifications, terminations. I also perform extensive appellate work in workers' compensation before the WCAB and appellate courts in PA.
