About me

Derek is a young, intelligent, and aggressive attorney motivated to actively defend his clients' interests and rights in the State of New York. He approaches each of his client's cases as unique and treats each person as his equal. Whether it be pursuing a quick resolution through negotiation or litigating a case to its conclusion, Derek is always trying his hardest to get the best result.

Prior to joining Anelli Xavier, Derek learned that the criminal justice system can be unfair and break down even the toughest among us if they don’t understand how the systems works. For that reason, he has dedicated his practice to defending individuals charged with crimes who deserve to be defended by an attorney willing to go the extra mile.

He graduated magna cum laude from Western New Mexico University and graduated from Syracuse University College of Law. Derek diversified his experience in law school by spending a year with the Securities Arbitration and Consumer Law Clinic, clerking for the Office of the Federal Public Defender’s Capital Habeas Unit, and serving as the National Student Director for the ABA’S Law Student Division Negotiation Competition.

Currently, Derek is an active member of the Onondaga County Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyer Project and a volunteer arbitrator with Syracuse City Court. He is admitted to practice in New York State and Federal courts in the Northern District of New York.
