Office of Professional Discipline Case
When your livelihood depends on your license and that becomes under review from OPD, from an accusation, there is a lot of fear, uncertainty and stress. Karen was the perfect lawyer to contact at that moment. Her expertise and compassion in licensing issues can not be understated. She new exactly what do to and to explain everything I needed to know to get through it. She could not have made the process smoother, which greatly helped in the anxiety and helplessness you feel during this time. Beyond her expertise, her genuine concern and sympathy was there right from the first meeting and throughout. You really feel you have not just an experienced defender but a close friend, who wants the best outcome for you, while recognizing just how difficult this period in your life can be. She had my case dismissed with one meeting and kept me well informed throughout. I will highly recommend her services to anyone who encounters any threat to their license.

Karen changed the course of my future with her AMAZING representation
Karen Halpern is among the greatest people I have ever met. She came into my life a few years ago during a time of tremendous uncertainty and peril. At that time, I was unfortunately introduced to and investigatory review of my license that resulted from being let go from a place of employment. Anyone that has ever undergone a situation like this knows it’s extremely unsettling and anxiety provoking. Karen was able to educate me on what I could expect to be confronted with during the entire process. She was completely knowledgeable and everything she described would happen went just as explained. I was able to walk through this situation with a great deal of courage and hope knowing that Karen was my legal representation. Ultimately, as a result of her devoted and diligent efforts I received an incredibly favorable outcome. It goes without saying that I am extremely grateful for the role she played in securing my future. Unquestionably I would recommend Karen Halpern and I hole her in the highest regards. Thank You Karen!!! BEST, James, LCSW-R

Registered Nurse
I hired Karen to assist me with a compliant made on my nursing license with the Office of Professions. Karen was very compassionate, knowledgeable and organized. Karen always kept me up to date with everything. I felt very confident and reassured in her abilities to help me. She was able to get my case completely dismissed with confidential review status. I am extremely pleased with her work and the results of my case.

Exceptional in the field and cares!
Karen most recently guided me on a delayed registration of my Social Work License. She is extremely thorough with receiving all necessary information on my case to ensure accuracy. She was extremely patient with questions, concerns and was speedy with her responses to help the procedure move as fast as possible. Previously, I made an error with fax information at my disclosure to my client and Karen successfully helped resolve this matter to help me to continue to practice. She is both extremely knowledgeable in her field and also caring. She is a magnificent find and most appreciative of her exceptional work

OPD Case
Karen J Halpern recently represented me in an OPD case involving Nursing. She is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met Her knowledge of the legal issues involving Nursing and OPD proceedings amazed me. Throughout the proceedings, she consistently encouraged me to think positively and to never give up hope. This was an extremely stressful period in my career and Ms. Halpern did all she could to keep my stress level at a minimum. I was always kept informed as to how the proceedings were progressing. Needless to say, thanks to Karen Halpern everything worked out for the best. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who needs the best legal representation in the health field.

OPD Investigation
Very early in my social work career, I found I was facing the unthinkable: an OPD investigation. This was a very frightening period in my life and when the investigation first started, I was afraid to hire a lawyer although many gave me this suggestion. It wasn't until much later that I realized I needed to hire a lawyer. I went online, did some research, and came across Karen Halpern. From our first conversation, Karen proved that she was knowledgeable about OPD investigations. I knew that I had to hire her simply because of her vast experience and her understanding of how these investigations took place. She demonstrated that she cared by asking about my situation and learning more about it by giving me feedback. She showed professionalism and courtesy when I would contact her to ask questions about my case and she always responded. I appreciated that Karen has had experience defending various helping professionals: nurses, social workers, etc. I appreciate her empathy in my situation as I was new to the field. I appreciate her honesty about how OPD and OMIG work, and how she outlined a plan to help me keep my career. Because by the time I hired her, which was late into my investigation, I was fearful of losing everything I had worked hard for: my social work license. My situation ended on a wonderful note with my case being closed, no charges against me, and it is over now. However, I will always remember and be thankful that I hired Karen, and if anyone is ever in this situation, I would refer them to her as she knows the ins and outs, she's the main attorney working for you, and she strives to defend you and represent you as best as possible. She does a phenomenal job and my only regret is that I didn't hire her sooner in my situation. Thank you, Karen, for all you do. Having you as my attorney gave me peace of mind, especially at a time when there was so much uncertainty in my future as a new social worker.

Omig exclusion
For the last 6 years of my life I lived in torment. I was placed on the NYS OMIG exclusions list after an audit. It was definitely the absolute worst experience of my life. The trauma of having an uncertain future in a career I fell in love with was inconceivable. My previous lawyer- unbeknownst to me-had absolutely no savvy in defending my license or educated me on the repercussions that being placed on this list meant. I lived the last 5 years of my life in constant fear of losing my job ( as I only cared for patients on private insurance-not Medicaid.) As time has ticked forward, I realized the current trend of managed care dominating the industry--it forced me to accept the fact that in a few short years I wouldn't even be able to push a broom in a hospital, let alone work as a nurse. One day intuition made me stop what I was doing and I googled "Omig exclusion Lawyer NY"--Karen's name was the first and only name that popped up on the screen that handled this specifically in NYS. I knew right then and there that I HAD TO CONTACT HER. From the very moment that I made initial contact with Karen she listened to ALL of my concerns and assured me that she could be of service. When I met her on my first appointment I really got the sense that she cares and that fighting for her own(being an RN herself) brought her the greatest satisfaction and purpose. She's a straight shooter and tells you exactly what you need to do and formulates a plan. I really sensed that she does not promise what she cannot deliver and won't take your hard earned money unless she feels she can win a case. Karen is meticulous and takes her time carefully dissecting your case to deliver an undeniable outcome. It's because of her expertise-that I was able to receive a favorable decision in 24 days-as opposed to the usual turnaround of 90 days! It's because of Karen Halpern that I claimed my life back! I'm now free to plan for the future without fear!! If you or anyone is in this position, please DONT HESITATE! Hire Karen Halpern to set the record straight! Don't place your livelihood in the hands of just any criminal defense attorney! You need to deal with a Lawyer who specializes and is well rounded in Licensure defense. By far the best Lawyer and the best investment into a brighter future. I truly have no regrets and you won't either!

Justice Center for Special Needs People
Do you need to appeal a Justice Center finding ? Well, look no further. Karen represented me on a recent Justice Center matter that went to a hearing. She skillfully dissected the JC's case against me and won the hearing. She is one of the extremely few attorneys that have won a case against the Justice Center. I can assure you that Karen is a very meticulous attorney that finds it unacceptable to lose a case. She's very soft spoken, listens to all of your concerns, reviews them and will later let you know the specific reason(s) why she feels your route chosen may or may not be in your best interest. Fortunately, as hard headed as I am, I elected to follow her guidance. In doing so, my ordeal is now finally over. You too can be the next success story. I highly recommend her.

NYS RN License Disciplinary Action
Karen recently represented me for charges of a HIPAA violation. She was extremely professional, knowledgable, and thorough throughout the entire process with the OPD, and I believe it was because of her that my situation was resolved so quickly. She takes the time to listen to all of your concerns and the facts of the case, and will give you her honest evaluation and prepare you for what lies ahead. In addition to her outstanding skills as a lawyer, she really cares about her clients. I felt like I had a friend on my side. If you ever find yourself in need of defending your license, I would highly recommend consulting and hiring Karen Halpern!

Licensure defense
Mrs Halpern represented me in a matter defending my license as an RN. She is a no nonsense straight shooter who is extremely well respected in her field. KH never promises things she can't deliver on. She is easily accessible via text or phone and always responds in a timely manner which is very important to me. She hands down always has the best interest of her Clients in mind and I was honored to have her represent me, it gave me great piece of mind knowing she was there for me in an extremely difficult situation.

"I have known Karen Halpern as a colleague and fellow nurse/attorney for many years and have consulted with her on matters dealing with the disciplinary defense of health care professionals in various state and federal agencies. She is very experienced and knowledgeable in this area and is often successful in having matters dismissed for her clients or negotiating the most favorable settlements possible on their behalf. I have found that Karen embodies a unique combination of qualities necessary for success in this arena. They are a straight shooting professionalism and integrity which have earned her the respect of her prosecutorial adversaries with whom she deals regularly and compassion for her clients who are often suffering through crises that have the potential to negatively impact their ability to practice in their chosen professions. I am grateful to have her as a resource for my own practice as well as an excellent attorney to whom to refer clients."
