About me

Mr. O’Brien is an experienced trial attorney with numerous successful jury verdicts throughout the New York State Supreme Courts and New York City Civil Courts. He has successfully represented institutional and individual clients in complex civil litigation in a broad range of substantive areas, including general negligence, medical malpractice, wrongful death, toxic torts, real estate, constitutional law, trademark and copyright infringement, securities fraud, and business disputes. In addition to trial work, Mr. O’Brien’s courtroom experience also includes successful appeals in state appellate courts.

Prior to founding O’Brien Law Firm, PLLC, Mr. O’Brien was in-house counsel for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company in their New York City office, and before that he was an associate attorney with McCarthy, Small & Associates, P.C., also in New York, NY. During law school, Mr. O’Brien worked for a sole practitioner in Boston, MA, where he gained invaluable experience not only in substantive areas of law, but also with the day-to-day management of a law practice.

  • Nance L Schick

I have known Michael since he was a legal intern in the law firm where I worked immediately after obtaining my law license. I saw him grow into his own licensure, then into an exceptional trial attorney. When we worked together at that law firm, I always knew I could entrust him with any assignment, whether it was in court, before the Workers' Compensation Board or a communication to a client. I have known him to be nothing but thorough, professional and effective. I recommended him for the position he took at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co.'s in-house negligence defense firm, and I have continued to recommend him now that he is in his own practice. There are few attorneys I can rely on as much as I can rely on Michael O'Brien. I am grateful for the ongoing opportunity to work, collaborate and "mastermind" with him.
