John R Nachlinger

About me

I devote my practice exclusively to family law matters, with emphasis on complex divorce/civil union dissolution, child custody, adoption, modification/ enforcement actions, and GLBT issues. I have been in private practice since 2005. Prior to that, I was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Frank M. Ciuffani and David A. Rosenberg of the New Jersey Superior Court, Family Part in Middlesex County.

I received my law degree from the Seton Hall University School of Law, where I was a member of the Seton Hall Law Review and Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Board. I graduated cum laude and was the recipient of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers' Award of Excellence. While in law school, I worked as a student attorney in the Seton Hall Center for Social Justice. While there, I represented indigent clients throughout all stages of divorce litigation. Upon graduation, I was recognized as the Family Law Clinic's Student of the Year.

I moderate an annual statewide seminar for the legal community call GLBT Update, which is an all-day annual seminar on all areas of GLBT law. I have also spoken at a variety of other seminars on family and GLBT law. I have written on various issues of family law, including a recent article in the New Jersey Family Lawyer entitled "QDRO Pitfalls" (January 2012).

I am admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York. I am an active member of several bar associations, including the American Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Middlesex County Bar Association, and the Monmouth County Bar Association. I am a member of the Family Law Section of each bar association. Finally, I am a Past Chair of the GLBT Rights Section of the NJSBA, as well as Managinng Editor of the section's semi-annual newsletter.
