MICHAEL A. MALIA, J.D., LL.M. is a seasoned trial attorney with diverse first chair experience, including trying over 50 cases, many published by Jury Verdict Review and Analysis and Verdict Search. Mr. Malia has taken jury trials to verdict in 9 of the 21 counties encompassing North, Central and South Jersey. He is triple board certified: Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney; Certified in Civil Trial Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy; and Certified in Civil Pretrial Practice Advocacy by the National Board of Civil Pretrial Practice Advocacy. Mr. Malia was lead trial counsel successfully representing a Fortune 100 insurance carrier in a six month trial, resulting in multimillion dollar judgments against ten defendants found liable for violating the New Jersey Insurance Fraud Prevention Act.
As a member of Pringle Quinn Anzano’s Insurance, Healthcare and Financial Fraud Litigation Practice Group, Mr. Malia aggressively investigates, litigates and tries to verdict sophisticated fraud scheme lawsuits. He also handles other complex civil litigation, including the defense of personal injury cases as part of the Special Investigation Units (SIUs) of insurance carriers. Before joining Pringle Quinn Anzano, Mr. Malia was a partner at a New Jersey law firm where he managed civil litigation from initial filing through jury verdict and appeal. He was also previously a Philadelphia trial attorney.
Mr. Malia has lectured at training programs on a variety of subjects ranging from litigation/trial strategy to direct and cross-examination of experts. Additional engagements encompass being: a CLE speaker at the New Jersey Special Investigators Association’s Annual Anti Insurance Fraud Training Seminar; a CLE moderator and panel member for the New Jersey Defense Association’s ADR seminar; and a CLE speaker at the New Jersey Defense Association’s Annual Convention.
The New Jersey Defense Association (N.J.D.A.) elected Mr. Malia to its Board of Directors (four-year term) because of his active involvement in the organization. Since 2013, he has been the N.J.D.A.’s ADR Committee Chair. Mr. Malia has also been the N.J.D.A.’s Fraud Committee Chair since founding the Committee in 2015.
After accepting a membership invitation from the Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Alliance, Mr. Malia completed the CLM’s 2015 Litigation Management Institute (LMI) hosted at Columbia Law School. The National Board of Trial Advocacy asked Mr. Malia to draft examination questions and grade answers of lawyers seeking to become Board Certified in Civil Trial Law. He is a court-appointed arbitrator in Ocean County.
