Maurice and Denise were very knowledgeable with the Medicaid process. My mother had been placed in a nursing home and the expense was enormous. Maurice met with me and gave me a detailed plan of action. This is a daunting process and is always changing with government guidelines. I was referred to Maurice as an elder law specialist. My mother was running out of funds and her financials were a shambles. She was bouncing checks right and left. Just as she was about to get evicted they qualified Mom for Medicaid and dealt with nursing home applications. Thanks to them she is thriving at the best facility in Bergen County!!! When I had my first face-to-face meeting with Maurice Giro I was struck by his knowledge, charm and empathy. But I was still quite apprehensive. I've had a spotty time, to say the least, with attorneys. Trust issues that are rooted in the worst kind of insanities that seriously messed my life up—financial and psychological. So to say that I was doubtful that anything would work out is an understatement. Mr. Giro was calm, seemingly genuine and assured me that what needed to be done could and would be done and that things would work out. Without going into too much detail, my case involved Elder Law and making certain that my aged mother would get proper care and that we would not lose our home in the process. I have been a caregiver for longer than I care to remember and, because of that, legally I had certain caregiver rights. Mr. Giro explained those rights and how we would go about beginning the process. There were some bumps along the way (none of them having to do do with Mr. Giro)—which included lousy care from a rehab facility (imagine such a thing) and being stuck in a red-tape limbo for a spell, but in the end, (seemingly miraculously) things worked out in our favor—just as Mr. Giro had said it would. We are now near the end of the long but important process. Unlike other attorneys, Mr. G doesn't pretend to know everything nor does he make false promises. He just does his best to get the job done. He’s pretty expedient in responding to queries and questions and doesn’t flinch when a client (like me) flies off the handle and/or sends a panicked, hot-headed (unthought-out) email. Intelligent attorneys (often an oxymoron) are like cardiac surgeons since we expect both to work miracles— and we rarely show our gratitude, and accuse them of overcharging. I would personally like to say, “thank you” to Maurice Giro for doing his job, quite wonderfully, and achieving the impossible, calming my anxiety and restoring my faith in the legal profession.
