Practice areas
  1. Personal injury
    40%
I represent individuals who have been injured due to someone else's fault. My personal injury practice includes premises liability claims, dog bites, slip and falls, products liability, motor vehicle accidents, assaults and batteries, and nuisance claims. I routinely litigate matters in the Connecticut state court system and I have also participated in numerous mediation and arbitration proceedings. I am a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association.

    17 years

  2. Workers compensation
    40%
I represent workers who have been injured on the job as a result of a traumatic event, repetitive trauma, or occupational disease. I regularly appear before the Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission. I have been involved in all aspects of workers' compensation litigation, including representation at informal hearings, formal hearings, and the Compensation Review Board. I sit on the Workers' Compensation section of the Connecticut bar and I edit and write for "Compensation Quarterly."

    17 years

  3. Landlord or tenant
    10%
I represent landlords and tenants who are dealing with issues related to rental properties. I often represent mobile manufactured home parks in rental disputes with park residents.

    17 years

  4. Litigation
    10%
I routinely handle civil cases, including civil appeals. I have briefed several cases before the Connecticut appellate courts and the Workers' Compensation Review Board.

    19 years

I am a Board Certified Workers' Compensation Specialist who is admitted to practice in both the Connecticut state and federal courts.  I am also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.  I also regularly appear before adminstrative agencies such as the Social Security Administration and the Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission.

I take a compassionate approach to client representation.  I listen carefully to my clients and I am responsive to their needs.  I understand that each person's case is unique and I take the time to learn about both the person and his or her case.  It is vitally important to me to return phone calls promptly and to answer any questions that the client may have.  I keep the lines of communication open.  I realize that navigating the often confusing and difficult legal terrain can be hard, and I strive to make that process easier and less stressful for my clients.

In 2016, I was named a Board Certified Workers' Compensation Specialist by the Connecticut Bar Association. In order to become a Board Certified Specialist, I must focus at least 25% of my practice in the area of workers' compensation and go through a rigorous screening process that includes peer review, participation in a minimum number of continuing legal education classes in the area of workers' compensation and ethics, and passage of a one day examination. There are only a very small number of Board Certified Workers' Compensation specialists in Connecticut, and this designation places me in a truly unique and select group of attorneys in the workers' compensation bar.

I have strong research and writing skills, having written numerous articles for several different publications.  I also serve as an editor and contributor for the Connecticut Bar Association's quarterly jounal for workers' compensation.  I have contributed to several appellate court briefs in cases that have been argued at both the Connecticut Appellate and Supreme Courts.

I am active in the local community.  In the past, I have served on the board of directors for the Meriden Domestic Violence Shelter.  I have been a member of the Meriden Rotary Club since 2008 and I currently serve as the New Generations chairman.  I have also served on the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Meriden since 2012.

I reside in West Hartford, Connecticut with my wife and two children.

Extremely pleased that i hired Colin.
Colin wasnt like any other lawyers ive had, he was hands on..every email or phone call etc. i sent to him, he replied back immediately or within the day. As much of a pain as i was, Colin showed how professional and educated he is. He never left me wondering what could happen and he never let me get my hopes up..he was honest and told it how it was. He put myself and my family first. I couldnt thank him more for having his best interest for my family. Thanks again Colin!

Eric, Thank you for this review! I try my hardest to make sure my clients understand the legal process. The old axiom is true that the wheels of justice move slowly. The process can be very slow and frustrating. Thank you for placing your faith and trust in me. I'm tremendously pleased we were able to achieve a great result for you. I'm even more pleased that I've gained a friend in the process. Stay well; thank you again for this wonderful review! Colin

Awesome attorney!
I promised I would write this for Colin two months ago, but life happens, and often not as one expected, so I apologize that this review is a little late. After a June 2013 car accident in which I was rear-ended, I was not going to pursue legal action, but a friend convinced me to contact a lawyer, and I'm glad I did. I chose Colin's firm because of their good reputation within our community, and Colin proved that to be true. He made me feel welcome from the moment we met, listened to what happened, and provided legal advice with no pressure to hire. I did decide to hire Colin, and over our 20-month relationship he was thoughtful, caring, respectful, dependable, trustworthy, and knowledgeable. He worked hard to ensure that I received a fair settlement and always kept me apprised of the next steps in the process. We had an open and honest dialogue and he was forthcoming with new information so I was never in the dark. I would highly recommend Colin for any legal counsel. Should the need arise, I know which firm I will return to in the future. Thank you, Colin!!!

Top Notch Representation
I would give my highest recommendation for Attorney Colin Mahon as he recently handled my Social Security Disability Case which resulted in a favorable decision for my family and I. Before seeking his services I was extremely overwhelmed with the uncertainty of the legal process but this was met with Attorney Colin's assurances, clear expertise in his field, timeliness in both sending and receiving all communications, the most noteworthy of skills in handling every aspect of the case from beginning to conclusion, and a great overall demonstration of professional proficiency...ALL of which was most welcomed and truly appreciated in a time of great personal difficulty. I feel especially grateful that should the need arise for legal services of any kind in the future we now have a lawyer that we would not hesitate in contacting who could again meet and surpass all expectations.

Compassionate professional
Attorney Mahon is exactly as described here in his profile on AVVO. Though my case does not warrant his representation at this time, he still spent a lengthy amount of time intently listening to my story, explaining the process I would be going through, and answering all of my questions. I found Attorney Mahon to be a curteous, caring, compassionate, and trustworthy professional who is well-versed in his field of law. Should the need for legal services in his area of expertise arise in the future, I will most assuredly follow up with this attorney.

Seamless SS Disability Process
After suffering for a long time with a disability, and finally deciding it was time to apply for Social Security Disability, I realized the process was not an easy, quick process. I had to obtain an attorney for assistance and I chose Attorney Colin Mahon because he is located in the town I reside. I was pleasantly surprised at how professional, on task, efficient and knowledgeable he is on the disability laws and process. He made my experience positive and helped me understand the next steps to take at all times. Going through the process alone is overwhelming to say the least. But most importantly (for me), he was a non judgmental, calming force when I had my court appointment with the judge. So very satisfied and happy I found him.

Auto Accident/Will
Attorney Mahon was recommended to me by a close relative. I first went to him to update a will and was very pleased with his professionalism. When I was involved in a very bad car accident a few years later, I called him because I was not able to deal with insurance companies and worry about doctor and hospital bills. Attorney Mahon dealt with all of it. My bills were paid to the doctors, hospital and physical therapist, Medicare was reimbursed, I was continuously updated on the progress of the case, and received a fair settlement in a timely manner. It gave me peace of mind knowing that a professional was handling everything. I have the highest regard for Attorney Mahon and would recommend him to anyone.

Buyer's Remorse/Power of Attorney/Will
Everyone needs a good doctor, a good mechanic, and a good attorney. My husband and I made a terrible mistake by purchasing a timeshare at an exorbitant price. Attorney Mahon advised us of our legal rights and helped us write a letter rescinding the contract. He also updated our wills and helped me obtain a power of attorney for my aging mother. The power of attorney has been crucial in managing my mother's affairs as she has become progressively incapacitated with Alzheimer's disease. It is comforting to know that whenever we have a legal problem, our attorney will be there to help us through it. I have found Attorney Mahon to be trustworthy, knowledgeable, tenacious and approachable. I highly recommend him and never plan on going elsewhere.

Personal Injury / House Closing
In 2012 we had Colin handle a personal injury case. Throughout the process Colin kept us updated on the progress of the case, was easily accessible (promptly returned phone calls and/or emails), and answered all of our questions in layman’s terms. It was clear that Colin genuinely cared and sympathized with our situation. The office has a welcoming family atmosphere rather than a large firm, so you truly aren’t just a number. In 2013 we had Colin handle the closing on our new house and there were several issues that had come up (e.g., a lien on the property) in addition, there was an issue with the mortgage company not being ready to close when we needed to move. Colin quickly put together a ‘hold harmless agreement’ that would allow us to essentially rent our home until the closing went through a week later. Through this stressful time, Colin kept us informed, updated, and reassured that everything would work out. He is everything one would want in a lawyer (hardworking, detail oriented, caring, and honest).
