I was introduced into the law by my grandfather, Attorney Cosmo Nicastro, who was born in the North End of Boston. He attended the Boston Public Schools and graduated from Dorchester High School. He graduated from Boston University School of Law and practiced law for 51 years until he passed away in 1969. I remember my dad bringing me to his office on Pemberton Square as a child many times back in the old Scollay Square days before the tear down of the West End. He also had an additional office in his home, though we were not allowed to go in there much. My father, Cosmo D. Nicastro, Jr., attended Boston University and graduated from Portia Law School in 1957. Though my grandfather had some high goals for my dad, my dad never wanted to be a practicing attorney. Instead, he did get his law degree and used it in corporate business and management to run several taxi companies. He retired from his post as the Vice President of Checker Taxi, Town Taxi and Red Cab in 2000 after over 40 years of service to his bosses and friends, Mr. Frank Sawyer and his daughter Ms. Carol Parks.
Though I was raised in Brookline, Massachusetts, and attended Brookline High School, my mom, Elizabeth (Betty Ray) Nicastro, and my grandparents Ruth and Kenneth Ray and great grandparents, John and Mary Kenney on the maternal side are all from Roslindale. My great grandfather was a local carpenter/builder. I often drive by homes that he built in the Roslindale Community. Now I also live and work in the Roslindale community. However, I have clients from all over Suffolk, Norfolk, Middlesex, Essex, and Plymouth and more recently even from Barnstable counties.
I have been practicing law for over 23 years now. Initially, I worked in the insurance defense field as an attorney handling medical malpractice claims. However, I decided to open and run my own business and by 1996, I had to hire a bookkeeper, a financial staff manager, and associate attorneys as the business took off rather quickly. I believe it is because rather than setting up the exact areas or fields that I wanted to practice in, I was more geared to what was needed by the people who lived and worked around me. I saw the necessity to expand what I did in my practice to meet more of the needs of the community.
Many local familes have come to me who needed legal representation in family law whether divorce, custody, modification or visitation; or such areas as prenuptial agreements, estate and will planning, trusts, and probate activities such as preparation for the estate, probate appointment, inventory, and final accounting. Many of my clients have young children and want a safe and dependable plan for guardianship for them. Unfortunately, sometimes a child or an adult or even a parent is charged with a serious crime. At those times, we have stepped up to handle the charge or arraignment the trial whether it be judge or jury and/or in the event it is better for the client, the plea bargain arrangement to either get a not guilty or work out the best deal possible for the client depending on the facts of the case.
Training and education for the staff members is indispensible in keeping ahead of the curve when it comes to our clients getting the best possible representation around, which is our commitment mission to our clients. After handling multiple trials in the Superior Court, District Court, Probate and Family Court, I received training and became certified by the Court in Conciliation. I also added Limited Assistance Representation for our Clients in order to give them the best possible represenation and to make it affordable. As a result, the firm has expended many thousands of dollars yearly in updating our systems, our law library, and state of the art on-line research tools, as well as our continuing legal education in order to be up to date on the latest laws in the areas of our practice. Only with this education, can we effectively educate and represent our clients in the areas where they need assistance.
After more than eleven years in practice, in October of 2005, my firm became a limited liability company, L.L.C.. Since that time, the firm's repertoire of expertise has grown to include lawyers who handle not only divorce and family law, criminal defense, estate and probate issues, but also real estate closings for buyers, sellers, banks and mortgage companies. The attorneys have handled condominium conversions for homeowners, changing the use of their current two or three-family homes into an income producing condominium. The firm has worked as conveyancing attorney and title agent.
The firm represents many small businesses in the initial formation, and set up of the structure, whether it be a sole proprietorship, corporation, or L.L.C. After set up, the firm continues to provide counsel to small businesses on a variety of matters and handles the collection of their accounts receivable. Many local Landlords have sought out representation by NICASTRO LAW, in order to evict the tenant, who does not want to move out. NICASTRO LAW, L.L.C., works aggressively with competent constables to quickly and professionally recover monies owed to clients.
It is no wonder that client reviews comment on the dynamic personalities of the individual staff members, which include their unique flare for creativity in thought and in the process in winning cases and in providing excellent legal services at various levels. Individual growth among the staff is encouraged and the workers flourish in their roles while being appreciated both by management and by the individual customer. Customer satisfaction is a premium goal at NICASTRO LAW
