Hadfield v. McDonough

Case Conclusion Date: 05.11.2005

Practice Area: Civil rights

Outcome: Judgment for Defendant

Description: Terminated Assistant Deputy Superintendant (ADS) sued County Sheriff and others under 42 U.S.C. §1983, alleging that his termination was the result of his support for incumbent candidate whom sheriff had defeated in election and thus constituted political discrimination, and asserting procedural due process claims. The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts entered summary judgment for the Sheriff and the ADS appealed. The Court of Appeals for the First Circuit affirmed and the United States Supreme Court denied plaintiff's petition for writ of certiorari.
