Attorney Brian Finnerty has been representing injured clients and insurance companies for over twenty-five years. He realizes that extensive experience “on both sides of the aisle” has given him unique insight into how cases involving issues of liability should properly be handled, from their inception through their conclusion, whether by settlement or trial.
Attorney Finnerty began working for his father, well known trial lawyer John F. Finnerty, Sr., while attending Suffolk University Law School in the mid-1980’s. His father, a World War II veteran often referred to as “one of the Deans of the Massachusetts Bar”, was loosely depicted by actor James Mason in the celebrated 1982 film, “The Verdict”, set in Boston and also starring Paul Newman. The movie was based on one of Attorney Finnerty’s medical malpractice cases, and followed the best-selling novel by Barry Reed.
Before attending law school, Brian was employed as a Deputy Assistant Clerk at the Middlesex Superior Court in Cambridge, where he learned the inner workings of the Massachusetts court system, served as courtroom clerk during some noted trials, including the infamous King Arthur’s police murder case, and, most importantly, made lifelong connections with local court clerks at all levels, contacts which have proven invaluable throughout his career. After obtaining his Juris Doctor degree and passing the bar exam, Attorney Finnerty was quickly “thrown to the wolves” by his father, routinely appearing in Court, taking on new cases, and taking cases to trial. He quickly established a winning record, setting the stage for the next twenty-five years.
Following the passing of his father in 1994, Attorney Finnerty co-owned the family firm, Finnerty & Finnerty, in Boston for twelve years as Senior Trial Counsel and Partner, where he continued to represent both individual and corporate clients. Since 2006, he has owned Finnerty Law Office, serving clients in Boston, Cape Cod, Worcester, and throughout Massachusetts. He has expanded his practice to include business law, criminal defense, and employment cases. After more than a quarter century, Attorney Finnerty continues to get the kinds of results that his clients, whether plaintiffs or defendants, have come to expect.
