  • Who can act as translator for a plaintiff in small claims court.

    Beth’s Answer

In Virginia, some of our courts maintain access to translators. You can request one prior to the date of the hearing. I have had both Russian and Spanish interpretors provided by the court on our hearing dates. The court allowed one of their own employees to translate our Russian case when the mother of the Plaintiff was called to testify unexpectedly and did not speak English. Perhaps your court provides similar resources. Your lawyer can ask the court about their resources and if you do not have a lawyer, call the Clerk of Court for your court and ask the availability of a translator for your hearing.
