    Glen’s Answer

    The first question you must ask is : Are you entitled to overtime in the first place? If you fall into a classification that makes you an exempt employee then you are not entitled to overtime. If you are not exempt then if your employer is a private employer forcing you to take extra time off instead of paying you time and a half for overtime, it is most likely violating the law.
