Thank you, I will call your colleague. When I mentioned my credit report earlier, I was referring to the date the file itself says the original charge-off account will be removed. The charge-off was in 2007.
That is fine but if a judgment is entered, the judgment will be listed separately on your credit report. It would be best if you could settle this now before judgment. Settling the debt should not affrect your credit. Before you pay a dime, you get the settlement agreement in writing. As part of the settlement, the letter should indicate that your credit file will be updated to reflect that the debt has been paid as noted by Attorney Leroi. IF settlement is made before judgment, then the letter should indicate that the action will be dismissed with prejudice. If settlement is made after judgment, then the letter should state that upon reciept of the funds, the action will be marked as satisfied.
