From an early age I knew that I wanted to represent the criminally accused. The interaction between people, the police, and the courts always fascinated me. There are no higher stakes than fighting to save a person's freedom and in some instances their life. I think that the American Prison System has failed. A violent crime occurs when a person uses (or threatens to use) violence to harm another person, including rape, assault, and murder. The penalties for violent crimes are stiff; conviction almost always carries substantial jail time.
