Botox is the most recognizable brand name of injectable botulinum toxin type A, and the name has become synonymous with the procedure. Originally developed to treat eye muscle disorders, the FDA approved Botox injections for treating frown lines in 2002, and patients immediately fell in love with it--making it the most common cosmetic procedure in the United States. It is most often used "off-label" to treat facial lines such as forehead wrinkles and crow's feet.
