A computed tomography (CT) scan is a series of x-rays taken at various angles and compiled into a single detailed picture by a computer. It’s sometimes combined with a PET scan to give your doctor more information to use in evaluating your condition.

You may have also heard the test referred to as a computed axial tomography (CAT) scan.
