State, local, and municipal lawyers focus on a particular area of state, local, and/or municipal government regulation. These lawyers can work for the government itself or work in the private sector helping people interact with the government. State, local, and municipal lawyers are often former government agency employees and, like their federal law counterparts, usually know the best contacts for each case, and what approach to take when negotiating with local officials.
