Contribution - answering questions has a predetermined value that increases each time a question is answered. Hence, the more content you contribute, the more points you will earn.

Do Answers rated as "Helpful" improve my level?

Answers are assigned a positive value when rated as helpful by the reader. The quality of an answer will likely have an impact on the amount of helpful responses an answer will receive and in return improve to contribution score.

Will writing an article for Legal Guides contribute points and increase my level?

Writing an article for Legal Guides will add points each time an article is contributed. Articles help consumers understand what often are very complex issues and provide the lawyer with greater contributor status.

Do articles with a Staff Pick designation increase my level?

An article designated as a Staff Pick typically meets and exceeds Avvo Legal Guide objectives and providing great value to potential clients. Staff pick designations add a positive value to your contribution score.

How is my contribution score calculated?

Contribution score is based on number of answers, helpful answer ratings, articles, and staff pick designators. Factors that are important to the overall level are:

Contribution

  • Providing answers to a question is worth 15 points.
  • Publishing an article in Legal Guides is worth 50 points.

Helpfulness

  • Providing answers that users rate as helpful gains 5 points for each helpful rating.
  • Receiving a Staff Pick designation on your article gains 10 points per article picked.

Regular Participation

  • Visit Avvo Answers and contribute regularly. A fixed number of points - 50, are available for each question. The sooner a question is answered the greater the likelihood that it will earn points.

All articles accepted will get full value but only quality Guides will get a Staff Pick.

What do the different badges mean?

There are several contribution levels that correlate to points earned. As point levels increase, the name of the associated badge for each level will change.

  • Level 1 Contributor - 0 - 15 points
  • Level 2 Contributor - 16 - 49 points
  • Level 3 Contributor - 50 - 249 points
  • Level 4 Contributor - 250 - 999 points
  • Level 5 Contributor - 1,000 - 2,499 points
  • Level 6 Contributor - 2,500 - 4,999 points
  • Level 7 Contributor - 5,000 - 19,999 points
  • Level 8 Contributor - 20,000 - 39,999 points
  • Level 9 Contributor - 40,000 - 59,999 points
  • Level 10 Contributor - 60,000+ points
