Everything I own: autos, bank accounts, credit cards, lease, loans, etc are all in this 'nickname'. I even changed my social security card to reflect this nickname, using my maiden name as my middle name for the purpose, and I file my taxes, federal and state, in this nickname. The only thing I haven't changed is my drivers license(Alabama), and my birth certificate (New Mexico). I really would like to change my drivers license to the name I have made 'common usage' for 30 years, so that it matches all other documents in my life. I sometimes get questioned when presenting my license for ID purposes, especially when using a credit card or check. Fortunately, my last name is so unusual that I'm able to convince the cashier that the two names are the same person. But I would really like to change my license; can I easily do this? I don't want to have to go to court and have all that expense, as the only agency I would need to notify would be Alabama's DMV. Any suggestions?
