Possible age discrimination

Is this age discrimination? A store at which I typically shop had an opening for a part time associate in the late summer. I applied online, giving my age as requested and never got an interview or any type of "test questions." A friend of my son's girlfirend (she's still in high school) was given an interview and later, hired part time.
Just 3 weeks ago, I saw another ad for a part time associate at the same stor (close to where I live.) I assumed this was a different job - maybe for holiday time. They simply asked for my neme and address at that time, then a note appeared. saying I had already for applied for that job so I was not eligible.
The store is probably aimed at younger women but it's sort of a "bohemiam" type style which fits in with how I dress perfectly. And although I am 53, I look and act much younger - I have a lot of energy, I enjoy people.
I'm a psychiatric nurse with 2 degrees -one in education, obviously, one in nursing - and the first time I was in college (late teens, early twenties, I was the assistant manager of a "Limited" store. So, although it was a long time ago, I'm not without experience in that specific field.
I feel completely sure that I would be hired if a manager just met with me...it's just when you write "53 yo" there seems to be a stereotype...but I really don't fit it.
I've e-mailed their HR dept and was told they would get back to me once the issue was investigated further. This has been almost 3 weeks ago. I e-mailed again a few days ago just to follow-up but now, not response at all. Any advice? Thanks for your help.

Change of terms to credit card agreement

For several years I have been carrying balances of over $10,000 on two Chase credit cards. The interest rates on these cards were very low, varying from 2.9% to 4.9%, and Chase promised that they "for the life of the loan" when I transfered my balances onto them.

I have ALWAYS paid my minimum payments on time, but in spite of this, Chase has just changed the terms of the agreement: they are not raising the APRs (they claim they are unable to do this, even though the murky fine print seems to give them the right to anything they want, which I find outrageous), but they are making the minimum payment go from 2% to 5% and they are imposing a monthly $10 fee.

They will give me the option of keeping the minimums at 2% and avoiding the fee ONLY if I agree to an APR increase to 7.9%.

To me, this seems like fraud, and the worst kind of manipulation. A monthly fee is equivalent to raising the interest rate, and the higher minimum is simply designed to coerce me into accepting the higher APR.

How can I stop them from doing this? Is it really true that they can raise APRs, fees and terms as much as they want, even if you always pay on time?

Severance Payout options to save Social Security Tax

I will have taxable income after deductions in 2008 of about $104,000. I have the option of taking a $52,000 lay-off severance in 2008 or 2009. If I take it in 2008 I have already met the social security limit and would save the 6.2%. However it will put me in the 28% tax bracket for about $24,000 of this amount. If I do the math it would be better to take the severance this year and save the 6.2% social security tax. Is there something else I am missing? I do not expect to make near as much next year as I did this year.

Child Support

I am a 24 year old soon to be graduate with a Bachelors Degree (talking December 18th, 2008). I am currently expecting a child with a faculty member from my college. During the time I became pregnant we were dating, but he cheated on me with another student from my school, and eventually broke up with me before I realized I was expecting.

He is unwilling to support me in any way because he is afraid of losing his job if the college finds out (it violates the no fraternizing policy in place) and I will be unable to get a job in my field due to the fact that very few and far in-between will hire someone who is due in 3 months from the date of hire. I was unable to work and go to school at the same time so I quit my job for my last quarter (11 weeks) of college so I could graduate. I didn't want to put off college any longer and I figured a degree is better than no degree after the child is born. I will be losing my medical coverage from my parents as of January 1st, 2009 and have since taken out a COBRA to cover me until the birth of the child for medical visits regarding the pregnancy and delivery.

He said he is not going to pay me anything because he does not feel it is his job to. He insists I take free state coverage from the government programs offered here, however the facilities are not local for me should I go into labor early or on time, nor are they adequate because it is a public hospital. Can he be held responsible for providing some or all of my medical coverage/support?

My second concern is that since he found out I was pregnant he has only contributed $300.00 total in the past 6 months towards the prenatal care and items I have received which has totaled over $1000.00 of my own money. He told me prenatal vitamins and supplements were not a necessity he should split the cost for along with other comments towards the expenses that I was told (by my doctor) were necessary. Is he responsible for any form of support or costs/co-pays for the prenatal care or cost of the baby expenses?

My third concern is child support after the child is born. He has shared with me several times while we dated the average salary the man makes. He has two jobs through the college. One is a full time professor and the other is a part time online education professor. He makes approximately between $70-90K a year, but tells me he will be unable to adjust his expenses and lifestyle to provide child support. He said he is willing to give only $100-300 a month which does not seem right to me considering the income he makes. He said he can not afford a child, but my father has raised and supported a family (5 including himself) and makes his mortgage, home equity loan, college loans, credit cards, 401K, insurance (health and car) and house utlities every month on a salary that is only $50K. However the father-to-be has recently paid for a new $2,000.00 computer and car expenses (paint job/fender repair), yet stills tells me he can afford much. Red flags are going up and I want to know what legal actions I can take should he try and avoid his responsibilities. Please help, I have no idea where to start.
