Woman Sues Store After Being Buried By Sauce

A Long Island woman is suing a supermarket for a negligently assembled display which left her injured and covered in spaghetti sauce.

Patricia Samaroo claims in a lawsuit filed in a Queens Supreme Court that a display of meatballs and spaghetti sauce at an Oxone Park Pathmark in Queens, New York, was improperly stacked and shaky, the New York Daily News Reports. The woman alleged that reaching for a jar in the display resulted in a large spill of spaghetti sauce and permanent injuries.

After the incident, Samaroo claims she was hospitalized with permanent head and spin injuries. She claimed that the pain in her neck persists and requires a regimen of painkillers for her to pursue a normal and comfortable life. Court papers also reveal that the pasta-lover endured bulging disks and nerve damage left her "sick, lame, sore and disabled."

Samaroo told the news source "[The display] shouldn't be that high. They should know what they're doing with a display like that." She added "All I know is that I was covered in spaghetti sauce." She later indicated that the sauce was on sale.

James Kiley, the woman's lawyer, claimed that the suit aims to receive compensation for events which occurred due to the supermarket manager's negligence in failing to "determine if jars were likely to topple and fall."

The Phillips National Injury Group does not keep statistics on personal injuries sustained by spaghetti sauce accidents.
