A Hollywood actor known for planning some brooding characters on the silver screen has reportedly filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Stephen Baldwin, perhaps best known from the movie The Usual Suspects, filed for protection in New York on Tuesday because the actor and his wife, Kennya, reportedly owe more than $2 million.

Citing court documents, the Associated Press reported that Baldwin owes $1.2 million on two mortgages on a property located approximately 30 miles north of New York City, which was valued to be at $1.1 million. It was also reported that the 43-year-old owes more than $1 million in taxes and has approximately $70,000 in credit card debt.

With regards to the property, the couple allegedly attempted to sell the house in 2006 and defaulted on more than $824,000 in payments to their mortgage, according to the article.

Baldwin's lawyer Bruce Weiner did not return calls left for him by the AP concerning this issue.

Recently, the actor was seen on the reality television game show I'm a CelebrityÂ…Get Me Out of Here! on NBC which was filmed in Costa Rica. Baldwin reportedly left the show after eight days, saying he suffered more than 125 insect bites during that time.ADNFCR-1918-ID-19279783-ADNFCR
