Rockers Lavigne and Whibley File for Divorce

Punk-pop singer Avril Lavigne has filed for divorce from follow rocker and husband Deryck Jason Whibley of the band Sum 41.

A petition filed last Friday in a Los Angeles Superior Court cited irreconcilable differences as the cause for the divorce. The couple, who were married in July 2006 have no children together, the Associated Press reports.

Court documents show that Lavigne has not asked for spousal support and has requested that Whibley be ineligible for support as well.

"I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship," Lavigne posted on her website last month, when the couple separated. "Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note."

Whibley echoed his ex-wife's sentiment noting on Sum 41's MySpace page, "Our decision to part ways is amicable and she holds a special place in my heart and forever will be a great and amazing friend."

The Associated Press reported that in December 2007, Whibley was granted a request to add Lavigne's last name to his own name.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that there are 3.5 divorces for every 1,000 people in the U.S.
