Nas Disputes Income Claim in Divorce

A hip-hop artist has revealed his financial status in an effort to reportedly counter the claims of his wealth by his estranged wife.

Nas, whose legal name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, is currently in divorce proceedings with his wife of five years Kelis, another hip-hop artist.

Kelis has claimed Nas earned $11 million in 2006 after signing with the record label Def Jam and is reportedly asking for $20,000 a month in child support.

According to Nas, he only made $4 million in 2006 and is currently experiencing a drop in his personal income. The hip-hop artist said he makes $147,165 a month, but that his monthly expenses total to more than $71,000.

NME.com reported that Nas spends $10,000 a month on clothing and personal grooming.

The couple will have their first child later this month and Kelis is requesting Nas to pay all pregnancy expenses and half the medical expenses once the child is born.

In terms of child support, Nas has reportedly offered $5,000 and has stated he wants to be completely involved in the raising of the child.
