Naked 91-Year-Old Detains Burglar

A naked 91-year-old man held an intruder to his Palm Beach, Florida, home at gunpoint last week until police could arrive to apprehend the burglar.

Robert E. Thompson was awoken on to the sound of 26-year-old Jose Pasqual struggling with his Doberman-Rottweiler outside of his house in the middle of the night, the Associated Press reports. Taking the cue from his dog, Thompson got out of bed, grabbed his .38-caliber revolver and called the police.

According to the elderly man, he tried to detain the intruder by pointing the gun at him and shouting. When the burglar took a step, however, Thompson says, "I fired a warning shot."

The homeowner told police that they remained still, one naked and calm, the other reportedly drunk and frightened, until police arrived to arrest Pasqual on a burglary charge.

Thompson, a World War II veteran with a Purple Heart told the news source, "The funny part was I didn't have any clothes on. I was standing out there with a .38 in my hand, and I was stark naked."

In Florida, burglary charges carry a sentence of up to 5 years
in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.
