Three people were reportedly killed on a Long Island, New York thruway after the vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree.

The car accident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on Monday morning on the Wantagh State Parkway near Merrick Road. Though the local police reportedly found empty beer cans in the Honda Civic, they have declined to say whether or not alcohol was a factor.

"Excessive speed continues to be a problem for many young drivers," Troop "L" Commander Major Walter Heesch told EmpireStateNews.net. "It is too early to determine whether drugs and alcohol was a contributing factor in this tragic accident. Our investigators will be waiting for autopsy results to determine drug and/or alcohol involvement."

The names of the victims have not been released to the public. The three car accident victims include a 19-year-old woman from Wantagh and a 23-year-old man from the Bronx. There was no information on the third victim.

The sole survivor of the crash was described as a 19-year-old woman from Amityville and was reportedly severely injured at the time of the incident.ADNFCR-1918-ID-19297938-ADNFCR
