Lawsuit: Blacks and '300-pound girls' denied entry to nightclub

An African American author has filed a class action lawsuit against a popular New York City nightclub, alleging the club's owner of denying entry to many of the writer's black guests.

The suit, which seeks $1 billion in damages, targets the Manhattan nightclub Greenhouse and its owner, Barry Mullineaux for his alleged actions in August when writer Teri Woods invited 175 guests to a book signing at the club, the Associated Press reports.

According to Woods, the black guests she invited were turned away from the club, while several of the white attendees were allowed in. The author has since said that some whites were denied admittance to the club as well.

Woods told the New York Daily News, "All of my friends and family were standing outside. I had really serious people out there: lawyers, doctors and people in the entertainment industry. I was embarrassed. I was just walking around in circles and in tears. They took my moment."

The lawsuit claims that Mullineaux sent a text message to Woods' party promoter saying he couldn't allow "300-pound girls" into the club.

Mullineaux called the allegations "bogus", and declined further comment.
