Officials have reported that the 36-year-old woman who drove the wrong way on the Taconic Parkway in New York, which resulted in the deaths of eight people, was drunk and high on marijuana.

According to a toxicology report from the Westchester County Medical Examiner's office, Diane Schuler had a blood alcohol level that was "more than twice the legal limit" and that the victim had traces of marijuana in her body at the time of the car accident.

Janet DeFiore, district attorney of Westchester County, stated that her office would continue the investigation so that the "public and families of the victims can understand what [led] to this horrific crash."

Police said Schuler had driven her minivan, which had five children as passengers, 1.7 miles the wrong way on the highway. The van eventually crashed head-on into a SUV that was reportedly carrying three passengers. The minivan then allegedly crashed into a third vehicle before rolling down the embankment and bursting into flames.

Eight people, included Schuler, died in the car accident. The sole survivor was Schuler's 5-year-old son Bryan.

It's been reported that approximately two hours before the crash, Schuler reportedly called her brother and said she wasn't feeling well.ADNFCR-1918-ID-19298229-ADNFCR
