Legal NewsCar Accident Takes Life of Golf Pro's WifeMonday, June 22, 2009 at 03:22 PM Beth Smith, the wife of PGA Tour player Chris Smith, was reportedly killed in a car accident on Sunday when her sport utility vehicle collided with a Greyhound bus, the Associated Press reports. The children of the couple were reportedly in car as well and severely injured.
The car accident occurred on Interstate 69 near Angola, Indiana after Beth Smith was returning from a Father's Day visit with her family in Toledo, according to police. The driver of the vehicle allegedly lost control and overcompensated, causing the car to cross the median and collide with the bus. A Canadian semipro football team was reportedly on the bus and several of the players were reported to be injured, including the owner of the team. The children involved in the crash were 16-year-old Abigail and 12-year-old Cameron. Both were transported by helicopter to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne where they are still being reported as being in critical condition. According to police reports, Abigail Smith was driving the car at the time of the car accident. The sheriff's department said the victim in the suv was a passenger in the front seat of the car. ![]() |
